WES 2010: New BlackBerry Wall Charger Coming in Travel Size
by Mac Jadalhack
Yesterday while taking pictures at the BlackBerry booth of the new line of accessories, we realized something weird in the background. It was this little wall charger piece and none of us noticed it at the time. So we went back today to check it out and get a closer look at it. Many of you have seen this style charger with the iPhone. Whether you hate it or love it, the iPhone charger is convenient. All it consists of is a little plug to put into the wall with a USB port to directly connect the wire which then goes into the iPhone. RIM is doing the same thing here.
One problem I found with iPhone chargers is that wires are much too short, where some find that convenient while others like myself think it isn’t. I asked the RIM representative at the booth about it and he said “that’s a damn good question.” I was then forwarded to the accessory booth for BlackBerry where they told me the wires that will be coming with these new wall chargers will be both 1 and 1.5 meters. When I asked which devices get which, he didn’t know the answer. The only confirmation we received on this is that every new BlackBerry will be getting this new travel size charger.
On a side note, the RIM rep explained to me how BlackBerry packaging is also transforming. Boxes will be a lot smaller and compact, saving space on your shelf (if you keep the box) and of course saving the environment.
So who’s getting this new charger and compact size box now? A good guess would definitely be the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G and Bold 9650.
