It’s just for fun and by all means use it at your own risk.  I can only imagine how much trouble you’d get in for impersonating a police officer.  This application is completely free to download over the air using the link below.  It flashes your screen red and blue with police sirens as the audio.  Again, use this at your risk.  By the way, the picture above is NOT how the application looks, so don’t get it twisted!

The other day at Starbucks I spotted the guy next to me with an OtterBox Commuter on his white T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8520.  It wasn’t ordinary though.  It was a color variation I hadn’t seen before.  The silicon (rubber) cover was white and the hard shell on top was black.  I have to admit, it looks really sexy on a white phone as you can see above.  I asked if I could take a picture, so I snapped one away with my Bold 9700 camera (yeah it came out pretty damn clean).  Just like a math equation, I factored it all out in my head how he had done this.  It had to of rooted from an original black OtterBox, and then a STRENGTH case had to of been purchased to fill in for the white part.  He looked at me funny that I had it all figured out, but that’s what you get when you’re a huge fan of OtterBox cases and follow up with all their new products.

I must say I was quite disappointed with Trillian for BlackBerry so far.  For starters, it killed my battery faster than any other IM client ever could.  The other thing I hated is that I would always find avatars of folks on my buddy list saved in my images folder.  It was really obnoxious when trying to browse through your collection of photos and seeing everyone avatars in your face there.  After awhile it got annoying having to keep deleting those, not to mention all the other bugs such as the LED light going off all the time.  We got the word from their blog that they ahve just updated it fixing all these issues and more.  I will give it another try, and hopefully we’ll see better results in this one.  Here’s the full change log:

  • Auth contacts should be in offline group
  • AutoText support
  • BIS connection problems
  • Can’t add accounts once signed in
  • Constant Red LED
  • Double spacebar & auto caps support
  • Fix LED speed to mirror standard speed
  • Hide avatars and other internal images from BB Media app
  • LED color support
  • List control not exposing expand/collapse menu options
  • Usernames with “_” aren’t being allowed but should be
  • Improvements to battery usage

It looks like RIM is about to roll out BlackBerry App World 2.0 very shortly.  We’re exciting to see some new features added in this one.  One feature I am fond of is the BlackBerry ID.  Basically the BlackBerry ID acts like a user account which will make your life easier switching BlackBerry devices and transferring all your purchased applications.  It seems to be a huge problem now for many whether your buying via App World or Mobihand.  The next new feature we see is carrier billing.  This is convenient but could get you in trouble if Mom and Dad are paying your phone bill every month.  Now you’ll be able to purchase BlackBerry applications and have them billed to your month to month phone bill rather than using PayPal at the checkout screen.  Also from what we understand, the My World screen has been changed up a bit but there’s no actual details on what to expect from it just yet.

As it’s been a slow day in news, we decided to throw this theme in your faces for those who haven’t picked up a copy yet.  Ever since we saw BlackBerry 6 teaser, there has been lots of speculation as to what the device does and theme builders have been putting these thoughts into reality.  So here’s another one of those, brought to you free.  Hit the link below to download absolutely free today.

“Show your battery who’s boss” is this applications motto which is quite humorous to me but goes along pretty well with what the application does.  JaredCo just released PowerBOSS to be the next prime app for battery management, promising to save battery life.  One thing I really like about PowerBOSS is that it allows you to override the default 5% radio shutdown to get out those last few messages or even a short call.  So how does PowerBOSS extend your battery life? It’ll cut down signal searches when you are completely off the grid of service towers.

Features:

  • Automated updates on available battery life for talking, surfing, music and videos.
  • Extends battery life by cutting down on signal searches when you’re off the grid.
  • Override the default 5% battery shutdown to send those last messages.
  • Easy-on-the-eye interface.
  • All upgrades will be free.

PowerBOSS is $4.99 to purchase from the PocketBerry Store.  Hit the link below to purchase it or to read up more info on it.

Carrier News »

Up until now the only carriers we knew who carried the white BlackBerry Bold 9700 were Rogers and T-Mobile.  Now the Malaysian carrier Maxis is getting the device in white also.  As it isn’t available to purchase yet, you can register on their site to be notified when it is available.  The white BlackBerry Bold 9700 will retail for RM 2459, with 12 months of free BIS.  I wish US carriers would so courteous.
