BlackBerry 9800 Slider Gets Only One Convenience Key? Welcome to the 8800

Something I failed to noticed up until now from the BlackBerry 9800 Slider video we posted is that it looks like the device only gets on convenience key which is traditionally used to activate the camera for many.  I have always been a huge fan of the retro 8800 series BlackBerry which had no camera, but did indeed have one convenience key rather than two.  That was ok to sacrifice as it did not have a camera so losing the one key I used to use for camera was not a big deal at all to me.  In this case, we have a full out slider BlackBerry with a camera and a brand new OS, but one convenience key? We’d hope to see something done about this on the final production model but who knows after seeing this right here.

I am also a big fan of two convenience keys. This does seem like two-steps forwared, one step back. Perhaps the trackpad doubles as a convenience key when the device is closed? If you like convenience keys, be sure to checkout VersaTool. You can assign up to three actions per key (single press, double press, and press+hold)

You also have to keep in mind that with OS 6, the whole hardware keyboard becomes a bunch of convenience keys. You'll be able to set each and every one to launch an app, making convenience keys a bit redundant, although they're still a bit more accessible.
