Gowalla seems to be the app competing with Foursquare as I’ve heard opinions on it on both the good and bad side. I’m personally on Foursquare (if you’re looking for me) and have given Gowalla a little test drive in the past. Either way, it is now in public beta for BlackBerry and you can all get in on it today to check it out. Even if you have Foursquare, check it out any way.

Before we get into the Storm 3 and Curve 3, the tablet specs leaked from Engadget don’t seem to match what RIM has been rumored so far to put out. A 10.1 inch tablet doesn’t seem right as we so far know its a 7 inch device. Things could change, and specs could be very well changed, so we’ll stay on the outside for this one. Verizon is also expected to get the BlackBerry Storm 3 we have been anxious to see as there has not been a single photo leak for this device. What we have been rumored so far on the Storm 3 is that it carries the same body as the Storm 2, with a more improved touch screen and a bunch of great specs under the hood. That leaves us now with a Curve 3. We assume it is a variation of the BlackBerry Curve 9300 but I really don’t see what the need for a CDMA version of it. More after the jump!
The Curve 8530 is solely for Verizon and Sprint being CDMA, rockin’ 3G already. The main objective of this Curve 9300 was to bring the 8500 back in a 3G form for carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T right? That’s how I see it at least. But don’t get too excited for the Storm 3 and Curve 3 as according to the rumors, these devices are “possible” to come out for the holidays. So what do you folks think of this? Is the tablet a BlackBerry one or perhaps an Android? Storm 3? Curve 3? Anyone, anyone?

It looks like Salomondrin posted some worthy videos once again of the upcoming BlackBerry 6 aka OS 6.0. As much as we’ve seen Webkit in action, we haven’t seen full functions and speeds much yet. So here we get a better glimpse of that along with some other goodies on a BlackBerry 9800 Slider. Media functionality is of course a huge improvement in BlackBerry 6 as we’ve seen in the official commercials from RIM as well. Seeing it from a user’s point of view is always better. More videos after the jump folks!

I was waiting to see what RIM would do or say in response to Apple’s remarks yesterday taking jabs at BlackBerry devices and other smartphones. So here’s the official statement from Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie:
“Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.”
To me it seems like RIM is really well spoken in this matter. I’m happy they responded quick and right to the point as BlackBerry smartphones do not need to be used in cases in order to have service bars. Good job RIM!

I got an email yesterday from AT&T about why a BlackBerry is the best way to go. Reading through their list only reminds you that there are quite a few devices out there that do the same functions. Either way this isn’t out of the ordinary for a BlackBerry and they are all still true. The only thing that bugged me was that they used a BlackBerry Curve 8900, which is pretty much old news. I know it says “life better with a smartphone” but the email itself emphasized “BlackBerry smartphone” so i don’t want to hear it.

- UPDATE: Apple.com/antenna to see what Apple says about the Bold 9700 and how it faces the same antenna issue. Do any of you believe it to be true?
What? Steve Jobs really took a jab at RIM this time. During the press conference which is currently going on now, Steve Jobs makes mention of the BlackBerry and shows the bars of one go down because of the way it is gripped. How do you folks hold your BlackBerry? Do you ever get dropped calls and data losses when holding it in any typical way? The iPhone 4 is clearly defective because you cannot hold the device in your hand and get adequate service. A BlackBerry’s antenna is not designed the same as Apple’s new faulty product. Jobs also takes a stab at other devices as well including the HTC Droid and Samsung Omnia. Stay tuned for more as we find out if Jobs takes any more jabs at RIM.
We couldn’t get an image of the BlackBerry demoed but here’s the Samsung Omnia. Hit the link below to check these guys out live!

Attention, this is for advanced users only. Please don’t go through with it if you don’t know what you are doing. Yesterday we had one too many emails from folks asking how to install hybrids, why their Berrys got bricked, and sorts of other messes. So we ask you once more to please do this only if you know what you are doing and at your own risk. These are hybrid BlackBerry OS versions with some OS 6.0 and 5.0 files mixed up together. This is 6.0.0.31 for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 and Bold 9650. If you are one of these Berry savvy people who know what you’re doing, let us know about your experience with the OS.
