So Verizon has halted all BlackBerry 6 testing on the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. There’s a few different possibilities here as to why this has happened. One which is the most obvious is the lack of memory the Storm 2 has. When I say “lack,” I mean not enough to support BlackBerry 6 (OS 6). If this is true, supported devices for OS 6 does not seem to be what we thought it would. Surely there’s many Storm 2 users out there, but there are a lot more Bold 9700 users. Seeing things like this as a 9700 owner makes you bite your nails a bit when wondering if OS 6 will support it or not.

The race between cell phone service providers to deliver the fastest possible data networks has raged for years, and T-Mobile seems to have taken the lead in their 4G coverage. In addition to the more than 85 million individuals now covered by T-Mobile’s 4G network, they have also made HSPA+ network service usable in 50 metropolitan areas. To employ this new network more effectively, T-Mobile has also hinted at a new smartphone that will be HSPA+ enabled.
Hopefully. T-Mobile’s expansion of their 4G network and progressive steps in the HSPA+ realm of mobile devices will push AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and others to develop their own technologies, like 4G and HSPA+, as well. In doing so, the provider wars will continue on, and BlackBerry and other smartphone users will be the beneficiaries. Hopefully, by the time the first 4G BlackBerry is released, all providers will cover as many or more Americans with 4G coverage as T-Mobile does. Hit the jump for the full press release from T-Mobile.

As much as many of you don’t really care for it, the BlackBerry Curve 9300 is coming up and will be hitting a lot of carriers near you so it’s time to deal with it. BBNews.pl posted up the official specs of the device for those of you wondering what it all was A to Z. Now it does say it is OS 5.0 out of the box below, which isn’t new news to us at all. How about BlackBerry 6 (OS 6.0) compatibility? We’d love to say yes, but it’s quite hard to assume with the 256MB of RAM even though the Pearl 3G gets that same memory as well. The other reason is the Bold 9700 and how a revamped 512MB 9700a is expected to launch. Hit the jump after the specs for more!

I know, I know. We’ve seen one too many previews of the BlackBerry Curve 9300, that we actually feel like it’s already out. With all the excitement for the 9800 Slider, we kind of don’t make room for any more interest in other BlackBerry devices much until its release. But this is a good video showing you ins and outs of the devices. What I like seeing here is that you see the Curve 9300 up close and personal. The video runs about 7 minutes. As for color? It doesn’t look purple but actually black with silver chrome actually. So who’s up for a Curve 9300? We know it’s coming to T-Mobile soon as we’ve seen it branded in the earliest leaks. As for Canada, there’s Bell and Rogers Wireless expected to get the device. From the way things are looking now, the 9300 is going to get around to a lot of carriers being a cheap and affordable BlackBerry but with 3G.

This is a funny application, and I guess if you’re stingy enough not to let your friends use your BlackBerry, then this is good for you. OutofBattery is an application that shows your battery level at empty when you activate it, to avoid having people use your BlackBerry. I guess this works good for strangers in the street, but I think everyone should feel confident enough to say no and walk away.

This has occurred on the AT&T network already, and a lot of folks aren’t happy. Data charts do show that average BlackBerry users don’t exceed the 200MB limit, and even if so, there’s always the 2GB. I think it’s more on the fact that there is some sort of limitation making you wonder why. Shortly after AT&T went ahead with the limited data plans, Verizon was rumored to do so as they mentioned on Bloomberg, but we had no set dates. According to Engadget, the time could be this month. So if any of you Verizon customers are eligible for upgrade, do so right away before these new data plans take control. We don’t know much about grandfathering policies with Verizon but that’s an idea up in the air for now.

It looks like the BlackBerry 9800 Slider is set to launch August 15 according to Mobile Beat who got the word from the BlackBerry Partners Fund. As we’ve known for quite some time now, AT&T is the set carrier to get it. If the rumor is true, I find it quite sad that no one knows the official name of 9800 whether it is a Bold or even Torch. One thing I know for sure is that RIM is teasing BlackBerry 6 on Twitter and even put out some official screenshots yesterday of multimedia experience with it.

I’m going to put two thumbs down on this one as AT&T hasn’t made any moves on a BlackBerry Pearl 3G on their network. At least someone in the United States is getting it. Cincinnati Bell has the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 (we’re just calling both the 9100 and 9105 ‘Pearl 3G’) ready for sale for only $99 with a two year agreement or $350 with no contract.
