So I’ve been using the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for a week now and if there’s anything I love about it the most, it’s the keyboard freedom.  On the Torch, I can type on screen via SureType or full QWERTY, or even slide down the device for a physical QWERTY keyboard.  I found myself using the physical QWERTY when typing long emails and such and the SureType when relaxing and typing one handed.  We want to know what you use more if any.

Looking to write in Hebrew on your new BlackBerry Torch? The beauty of the device is that it does have a touch screen, so it has been made easy to implement an onscreen keyboard with any characters desired.  This is a nice and easy add-on spotted by Ronen over at BerryReview.  To get the Hebrew fonts and keyboard, point your BlackBerry Browser to cheservices.com/blackberry , then select “9800″ as a device, and you’re good to go!

On the BlackBerry Support Forums, RIM has posted up how to integrate touch gestures in applications so that developers can continue with the ball rolling on apps with the new BlackBerry 6 platform, preferrably for the Torch 9800 at the moment.  This is an interesting slide show for developers showing you steps and key facts, with the voice over of someone from the team to help explain it.

Application Updates »

Before you had to buy the application all in one shot but the folks over at Tawkon let us know that their application now has a free trial for those who would like to try it before they buy it.  It’s not like any other game or anything where you see some screenshots and buy it based off of that.  Tawkon is a radiation monitoring application, so users would very much like to see how it works first hand before committing 10 bucks to buy it.  As a result, it’s now available for a free trial on their new update (along with minor bug fixes).

Sprint has just rolled out a new OS for all your BlackBerry Curve 8350i users.  This one’s OS 5.0.0.807.  The OS itself cannot be found under Sprint downloads via BlackBerry’s site but BerryReview has spotted a direct link you can officially download it from.

Here’s a free application called Quickmsg which allows you to send out automated messages to friends, family, and coworkers when answering the phone is inconvenient.  Messages can be sent via email or SMS (text).  It comes with a bunch of preloaded messages as seen above, but of course you can add your own custom responses to have sent out.  The app is easy to use, and of course it’s free.  I haven’t had good luck downloading it on the Torch although it says it is compatible.  For everyone else, hit the link below to download from App World.

It looks like AT&T has added a new commericla on their YouTube channel, but I haven’t seen it on television yet.  I really like this commercial for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 as it very much exemplifies how the device is for both fun and business.  That’s the image BlackBerry needs, more on the fun side at the moment since they’ve been strictly business for a long time.

It looks like RIM is doing everything it can to keep other countries happy far enough that they’re allowing countries to snoop on email messages sent and received.  India put an August 31st deadline for RIM to provide a technical solution on having access to its people’s emails.  The response was immediate and according to sources, RIM will be sending out a technical team to India sometime next week to get the ball rolling.
