Here are some highlight photos we picked out from the BBM Lounge Party out in California. We wrote earlier today about how you could order drinks via BBM and displayed the chart from the slide show exemplifying different commands to write in. Party included some famous celebrities such as Olivia Munn from Maxim, Mel B from Spice Girls, and many more. These are just some of many pictures from the party, but we found some of them comical, and others we posted for the sake of BBM logos and such posted around.

Here we go again. More OS leakage for devices barely surfacing in our reach. The BlackBerry Clamshell 9670 just got an OS update leaked in town, this one is 6.0.0.151. So last time we saw the 9800 OS leak out before the device came out, it was days later that we had its official announcement. Is this the case? No I doubt it, but I thought I’d attempt to twist up some of your thoughts. What we do know is that the 9670 is a CDMA device, so we expect to see it by end of the year or early 2011 as that’s when BlackBerry 6 CDMA devices have been rumored to launch. As for this OS update, if you’re a hybrid kinda guy or actually have this device at the moment, hit one of the links below to download it.

With everything going on in the world with RIM and all the bans, ban lifts, “special servers” for specific countries, customers and businesses are of course questioning what exactly is going on, and attempting to seek further knowledge on how secure their email is, and will be for the future. So RIM went ahead yesterday and released this official statement addressing everyone’s concerns.
In response to the statement published today by the Government of India, and further to RIM’s Customer Update dated August 2, RIM wishes to provide this additional information to its customers. Although RIM cannot disclose confidential regulatory discussions that take place with any government, RIM assures its customers that it genuinely tries to be as cooperative as possible with governments in the spirit of supporting legal and national security requirements, while also preserving the lawful needs of citizens and corporations. RIM has drawn a firm line by insisting that any capabilities it provides to carriers for “lawful” access purposes be limited by four main principles:

I love using Evernote. My only issue with it was using it on my BlackBerry. For the iPad, it is an excellent application as the UI is very savvy. The UI on the BlackBerry application was never all that, but it did the job. Late last night I got updated to v3.0.260 for Evernote, so of course I was anxious to see it. I am definitely starting to see better enhancements now as they update their BlackBerry application. I strongly believe with BlackBerry 6 OS and larger screen displays, folks will be able to utilize the app the fullest now as it can get a bit difficult to fit a lot in such a small screen. Here are some improvements:
- Better search performance
- Improved networking in a variety of BlackBerry configurations
- Resolved login and permission issues
- Many other bug fixes and improvement
- placed many of the important application functions into the menu
To download, Click the appropriate link for you:
- BlackBerry v. 4.5 (older Curve models)
- BlackBerry v. 4.6 (Bold, Tour)
- BlackBerry v. 4.7 (Storm/Storm2)
Or you can alternatively head over to BlackBerry App World to download or update it today.

UberTwitter – you know the deal already. It recently went through a major update including a whole UI revamp as you all know by now. Of course just like anything else, when an app is brand spankin’ new and has one too many changes to it, there’s always kinks. So here’s the full change log for v0.985 of UberTwitter. I can’t wait for just a flat out v1.0 of the app already. By then the app better tweet for me.
- Fixed issue where timelines would freeze
- Fixed issue where @replies would show up late
- Improved memory management
- More efficient timeline scrolling
- No longer relies on the device time/timezone being correct
- Added ‘Mentions’ button to user profiles, taking you directly to a timeline of tweets that mention that user
- BlackBerry notifications can now be turned on/off within options for regular tweets, @replies, and DMs individually
- Added a ‘Delete All’ to the ‘Hashtag Picker’ menu
- Restored the ability to ‘load more’ tweets on timelines
- Fixed a bug in our cell tower geolocation capability which was preventing some towers from being recognized
- Fixed a bug where if you select it, the location field in your profile wasn’t getting updated
- The ‘enter’ key will now work the same as a trackball click on one of our custom buttons
- Fixed bug that was causing input exceptions when composing a tweet on Storms
- Improved the visual quality of the icons
- Allowed older devices to select the larger icons
- Fixed the sound alerts so that only one alert is received for 1 or more new tweets/@replies/DMs
- Fixed the countdown of unread tweets when putting the application in the background
- Caught a condition where some users were trying to send a tweet and it would send out the text ‘null’ instead
- HTML entities are now converted to the correct Unicode character
- If you have unread marks set to auto-manager, then leaving the @replies screen and DMs screen will mark all of those as read
- Added back the ability to select SSL connection to Twitter
- The number of tweets returned in ‘Everyone Near You’ and searches now respects the setting under ‘options’.
So that’s it folks. There’s the full change log for UberTwitter v0.985. I don’t know about you but I did have a lot of lagging and freezing moments as it is mentioned to be fixed in the change log. Might make me go back to using Uber again.

So the BBM Lounge party in California just came around with a great turn around and we got some photos and press kits sent to us about the night. One thing we wanted to share with you was the luxury of ordering drinks at the party. The image above is shrunken down a bit but you could BBM “bubbles” to receive a glass of champagne for instance. Pretty cool right? There was BBM barcodes all over the party. Each one gave you something different including talking to famous celebrities, entering contests, and more.

Devices, Reviews »

It’s been a really fun week testing out the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Reviewing this device was unlike any other as everything from the hardware to the actual OS was all new to us, providing a different experience we haven’t had before. For the past year, I had switched into a BlackBerry Storm 2 quite a few times just because it felt nice to have a touch screen BlackBerry. Then there were other times where I quickly ran back to my Bold 9700 missing the feel of an actual keyboard. Overall, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is an excellent device for those who favor both touch screen and physical QWERTY along with a trackpad. Here we give you a review of the device and our full yet realistic experience.
