I read this over at CrackBerry and thought it was just the right fix for my BlackBerry Torch 9800.  For those uanware, a huge problem in the Torch is that the battery just drains, runs out and then will shut off with no warnings throughout the process whatsoever.  Plug It In is a free application you can download that lets you know when your battery is low.  That way you can be more aware of these things in advanced and run to the charger when needed on time.

The Application Management on BlackBerry 6 is awesome.  Finally RIM has added a live CPU monitor allowing you to trigger down what could be slowing your device down when experiencing issues.  It allows you to check out stats for that live moment, a day before, or for the full week.  But that’s not all.  You can swipe back and forth between different fields including CPU, Memory, Usage, Application Storage, and Applications.  You can change the time frame for all five of these and it’s just interesting to see even if you’re not having memory or lag issues.

So how is this menu accessed? Hit Options, then go to Device and there you will see Application Management.  Alternative? While you’re on the home screen, type in the all-in-one search “application management” and it will come up.  You don’t even have to complete the words since it will come up as you are typing.  In the search results you’ll see Options (1) come up.  Just click that and you’re ready to go.

After spotting today’s Deal of the Day at the PocketBerry Store, I came across this freebie app called Student Diary.  These are the kind of apps I believe need to get pushed out more even in App World to encourage students and organized users to use their BlackBerry smartphones more.  Student Diary is your full out organizer for high school or even college that just keeps everything all in one place.

Features:

  • Manage Your, Timetable, Assignments, Projects (with Task Management), Modules (Classes)
  • Call/Email Academic Contacts directly from the App! (and import from Address Book).
  • Get Alerts One Week, Three Days and One Day before an Assignment or Project is Due!! (yes, we have all missed or have had delayed submissions because we all forget sometimes).
  • (Note: More features will be added as time permits)

The UI on this application is just awesome.  I just downloaded it today to check it out for the first time and I like it a lot so far.  I probably won’t keep it only because I really don’t need to do mobile checking on my BlackBerry, but for those who have interest in doing so, check out Mobile Checkbook.  Certainly there’s a lot of finance and accounting apps out there for BlackBerry but Mobile Checkbook is ranked the #1 personal accounting app for BlackBerry which always makes it a plus to go with.

Features:

  • Record transactions on the go for any account, including Checking, Savings, Credit Cards and more
  • Mark Transactions as ‘Cleared’ and quickly view your Available Balance vs. Cleared Balance
  • Schedule Recurring Transactions for any account
  • E-mail transaction lists to your personal computer for storage off of your phone
  • Easily ‘Transfer Funds’ between two Mobile Checkbook accounts
  • View past transactions including date, time, payee, memo and check number
  • Modify, purge or delete transactions at any time
  • Maintain an unlimited number of accounts
  • Enable PIN Code Protection for additional security
  • Choose from multiple currencies or add new currencies at any time
  • Export your transaction lists in HTML, CSV or Quicken(QIF) format.
  • View your total withdrawal & deposit amounts to compare saving vs spending
  • Streamlined interface makes recording and viewing transactions easier than ever

It’s only $4.99 as a App Deal of the Day special.  Click here to read more info or to purchase it today.

Now that the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is officially releasing for AT&T on Thursday, there’s got to be a device coming which we’ll be chasing after for coverage next.  As many of you don’t want to hear this, it seems like the clamshell 9670 is up now.  BBLeaks put out some download links for the leaked simulator of the device, so you’ll be able to play around with it – virtually that is.  Not sure what OS it’s running since we’ve seen leaked images of the device running OS 5.0 before  (nor do I have much of any interest in trying it any way) but you all can certainly take a jab at it.  I’m pretty certain it is BlackBerry 6 if it made it as far as getting the simulator.

As we get closer to the launch of the BlackBerry Torch 9800, it looks like apps and updates are starting to roll out.  I’ve been enjoying the Podcast app already on my review unit Torch and also had a 5.0.1 version BBM, but this one is up to v5.0.1.38.  For all you who weren’t in the previous beta, you’ll enjoy the new interface in chat as it’s a lot “funner” looking and conversations actually come up more as bubbles than they are blocks.  Hit the link below or head to BlackBerry App World to update!

It looks like T-Mobile was right giving it off that the Podcast App was coming out this month.  Ehab spotted the Podcast application available in BlackBerry App World so it’s finally official.  No more Beta Zone or other walkarounds for this one folks.  Hit the link below to download!

Last week at the BlackBerry Torch 9800 event in NYC, we were introduced to the new WiFi Media Sync service.  Now I know not many of you have a Torch just yet, but this is good to follow up on just to know before getting one or updating your current BlackBerry to BlackBerry 6.  I came across this interesting post on BlackBerry’s official site talking about the recently introduced WiFi Music Sync for BlackBerry.  In this article, it shows a full tutorial on all the what’s and how’s to the new service.  Hit the jump for the full guide on what you need to use WiFi Media Sync, how to use it, and more.

We’re still reviewing the BlackBerry Torch 9800, and always figuring out new features with it as we use it.  A bit earlier I was chatting with Ronen from BerryReview about BlackBerry 6 on the Torch 9800 so far.  He brought up something interesting that everyone else including myself failed to realize.  The ‘P’ and ‘N” keyboard shortcuts are completely reversed.  Usually, the ‘N’ keyboard shortcut in Messages takes you the the NEXT (newer) email message, and the ‘P’ is supposed to show the PREVIOUS older message.  Up until now it seems to be that those buttons are reversed and next shows the next older message rather than newer while previous shows messages newer and higher up in the list.  Personally, I don’t use these shortcuts on a regular basis, but for those of you who do, start flipping your mind around and get acquainted with the opposite commands.

The all new Notifications page on BlackBerry 6 is definitely one of the best features I like about the OS and particularly on the Torch 9800 itself with the large screen display.  The Notifications page allows you to see everything going on all on one page.  Firstly, let me explain how easy it is to access at any time.  While on your home screen, simply click where your new alerted notification indicators are, and then the Notifications page rolls down smoothly (lagged a few times but it seems to be tip top now).  So what’s Notifications include? As you can see it includes calendar, messages, BBM, all your social feeds, and call log.  Having the large display allows you to see it all one one page while scrolling a bit up and down between different sections.  Each item can be clicked to view the full message or event.
