The BlackBerry Torch 9800 came up as a new device with a brand new OS and there wasn’t much of any compatibility with apps and games upon launch.  After a month and change of using the device, I came up with a list good games to you should check out for it.

Some of these are premium games while others are free.  Again this is just a collection of what I found to work really well on the BlackBerry Torch 9800.  If any of you have any suggestions, drop us a line or tweet us.

RIM has announced on their BlackBerry Twitter account that the BlackBerry PlayBook will come with Kobo preloaded on it.  When we saw Kobo pop up in the BlackBerry PlayBook teaser video from the keynote here at DEVCON, we figured it would be the standard eBook reader and the Kindle app would just be something extra to download as it is on the iPad.  Kobo currently has over 2.2 million eBooks to download at the moment and will continue to grow.

Just yesterday we ran a quick poll to see who was interested in purchasing the BlackBerry PlayBook.  We didn’t mention pricing terms or anything – just based off of what we know about it so far.  So here were the results:

  • Yes: 58.59%
  • No: 11.11%
  • Not Sure: 30.3%

So based off of the results, we’re seeing that there is high interest in the device so far but there is still a fraction there that would like to find out more about the device – more or so see hands on experience videos.  Only an 11.11% straight up said no to the PlayBook.

Here at DEVCON, there’s a lot of hype for the device and if you go ahead and watch the keynote streaming, you’ll see how excited all the developers and press were when the teaser video came on.

So for all of you out there who missed out on the keynote two days ago, you can go ahead to this link to stream it all online.  For those who haven’t been following up, Mike Lazaridis announced and showed off the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet which had been rumored for a while as to whether or not it was going to be announced at DEVCON.  Other big announcements included advertising for application developers and BlackBerry Messenger opening up to third party application developers as well.

Don’t Disturb Me is a great BlackBerry application that lets you block out unwanted SMS (text messages).  If you’re getting a lot of unwanted spam through SMS which can come from companies sending out promotions or just the wrong people having your number and sending out mass messages to all a lot, you can block them easily right through the app.  There’s also a trial version available where you can block SMS 50 times.  Full features include:

  • block sms by sender’s number or number prefix.
  • block sms by user defined keywords.
  • use “safe sender” list to ensure your important sms will not be blocked.
  • use password to protect DDM’s setting
  • backup number/keyword/safe sender list to SD card or restore from SD card.
  • display block indictor and number of sms blocked on top of screen.
  • configurable sound/vibrate/led notification when blocked a SMS or totally key silent.
  • view detailed infomation of blocked SMS and reply it.

As a new release device, it’s only $2.99 for the time being where it’ll later get bumped up to $3.99 again.

We were expecting this one soon and it finally looks like the time is now.  AT&T has officially announced the BlackBerry Pearl 3G and BlackBerry Curve 3G today.  As far as pricing goes, the BlackBerry Curve 3G will be $99.99 with no rebates required.  The BlackBerry Pearl 3G will be going for $149.99 with no rebate required as well.  For starting prices these are both cheap, but we didn’t expect it to go any higher when the elite BlackBerry Torch 9800 goes for $199.99.
