Application Updates »

It’s a great time to see Foursquare update as we are at DEVCON and the application seems to be really trendy around here. So Foursquare for BlackBerry got a nice update to v1.9.5 addressing some common issues but also some great additions such as push notifications. Another thing I was disappointed with was how it wasnt very “touchscreen friendly” on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, but it was never a huge deal. That also has been changed up with UI improvements to enhance touchscreen experience. Hit the jump for a full change log along with the OTA download link.

As a promotion for DEVCON this year, Blaq has put out their application 50% off using the coupon code “DEVCON10.” So just use it on the checkout screen and you’ll be good to go to receive the app for only $2.49 rather that $5. For those who don’t know about Blaq, it’s a new Twitter client for Blackberry with a lot of useful shortcuts such as “Quick Tweet” which allows you to send out tweets fast from your homescreen or any other screen by hitting the BlackBerry menu button.

Gotta love OS add-ons! That’s what I call them at least. I’m all up for these “applications” that act more as add-ons to BlackBerry by appearing in sub-menus or even quietly working in the background. SelectAll is a great application because it allows you to select text within focus without having to manually scroll up and down or wherever ekse. There’s not much to it other than that function, which explains why the price is so cheap – but keep in mind how useful it can be.
- Adds a new “Select All” menu item next to normal “Select”.
- Visible in: messages, emails, text messages , MMS, memos, tasks, address book entries
SelectAll is only 99 cents to purchase from the PocketBerry Store. If you highlight text frequently and need to paste them around here and there, Select All can come quite handy when trying to select text faster than usual.

A new theme called OS6 Info Plus just arrived to the PocketBerry Store. BlackBerry 6 themes seem to be quite popular nowadays as we have been teased of it, and even have it officially on the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and unofficially on devices such as the BlackBerry Curve 3G and BlackBerry Bold 9650. So this one’s a Today theme which displays both Messages and Calendar on the homescreen along with six customizable icons below with BlackBerry 6 style icons. Here are some features:
- OS6 Icons
- Custom BlackBerry Focus Icon
- Custom BlackBerry Wallpaper
- 2 Message & 2 Calendar Items right on your Home Screen
- Hotkeys for easy access to FaceBook, Profiles, SMS/MMS & QuickLaunch

These have been out for a few weeks now, but we decided to let you all know that it is now available as it has been out of stock for a little bit after the launch. Coming officially from RIM as the official holster for the device, this is a unique design we have never seen before. The best part about it in my opinion is that it is very slim yet durable. Most BlackBerry holsters pop out of your belt way too much than they should but this one for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 fits in quite well. Hit the link below and see it for yourselves.

So this year things are a bit spiced up with DEVCON themes being available for some BlackBerry models. First in line was the BlackBerry Bold 9700, but then I saw BlackBerry Torch 9800 and was quite amazed. Even though there is no official theme builder out yet for the Torch, this seems to be the first theme out. Don’t get too excited – it just changes your background to say “BlackBerry DEVCON” and adds a green highlight to menus you select along with two home screen BlackBerry web links.

Some of you may feel these are getting old, but I strongly believe that all these new BlackBerry commercials, especially the ones targeted towards the Torch are great. Here we see a little bit of a recap – but more in depth on how a DJ likes the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and is fond of it.
