Pandora for BlackBerry has just updated to version 1.1.5 adding two new things: BlackBerry Style 9670 and Universal Search integration for BlackBerry 6 OS.  Along with this update came some bug fixes including:

  • Fixed some display issues that sometimes occurred when bringing Pandora into the foreground
  • Bookmark Artist was not showing the “Bookmark Added” message (even though the bookmark was actually added)
  • In 6.0, the popup context menu was showing after selecting menu items with the trackpad

It looks like the first official BlackBerry Bold 9780 OS has been released by Vodafone Italy.  Some of you may find this one familiar as we saw the same version in a leak not too long ago.  Either way, you can download it officially from BlackBerry.  We can’t wait to get our hands on the device here in North America, or even to see the OS on the Bold 9700.

It’s really amazing to see your BlackBerry working live on a larger screen other than the one on the device itself.  We’ve seen netbook looking emulators by RedFly, but they didn’t work out to well due to the slow speed it moved around at.  QNC and RealVNC have taken that similar experience and brought it to automobiles.

In this video we see a BlackBerry Bold 9700 projected up on the car’s dashboard live with no lag whatsoever.  The key here is to use your BlackBerry safely while driving, but I see that posing a problem as well.  In my opinion, anything that takes your eyes off the road is a hazard.  Surely this is a larger screen and it may reduce the chances of an accident versus looking down at your small screen BlackBerry.

I’m not sure how useful this is to most but if you’re all dug up web browsing or in a third party application on your BlackBerry and don’t feel like exiting out to the home screen to see the time, you can use this application where clicking the BlackBerry menu will display the current time.  Features include:

  • The clock menu item can be enabled/disabled at any time
  • Works in most third party applications
  • The date and/or time can be configured to copy itself to the clipboard when the Clock menu item is pressed so it can be pasted into the application you’re using, including third party applications
  • The clock format can be configured to change when the clock menu item is pressed
  • The app is NOT always running in the background. Since it doesn’t run in the background, it will NOT slow down the normal operation of your phone, nor cause additional battery drain.

It’s only 99 cents to buy and there’s not much to it other than the clock showing up on your menu.

GelaSkins are really cool sticker covers for BlackBerry I personally haven’t given a chance before.  What makes them unique over other skins is how they come up as unique designs and images that uses your BlackBerry wallpaper to “mesh” in with the rest of the skin as seen above.  Ronen from BerryReview spotted that the BlackBerry Torch is now supported, so more can get in on the action now.  They’re not bad at all in price as they’re only $14.95 to purchase.  Click the link below to browse through all sorts of different designs for the BlackBerry Torch and other models.

It looks like Fancy Characters for BlackBerry has just gone through a nice update this time around.  One of the biggest things here is new added symbols, and a lot more exclusively to BlackBerry 6 OS devices.  Below is the full change log.

  • New logo design
  • Added more symbols, mostly for OS 6.0 devices
  • To get even more symbols on BB Torch get the Asian Fonts pack http://tinyurl.com/AsianFontsTorch
  • Improved Twitter and 3rd party apps support (those where initially could not insert automatically like MiniNotes)
  • Added partial support of BB Groups on BB Torch
  • Improved popup speed and performance

To update, head over to My Account in the PocketBerry Store or click the link below to purchase Fancy Characters if you haven’t already.

Last night I was prompted to update Foursquare for BlackBerry, but it looks like there hasn’t been a change log released.  I haven’t messed around with it deep enough to notice anything and also it could just be some bug fixes.  Last update we saw included push updates making your battery life a lot better.  If any of you notice anything new here drop us a line!

So the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is coming to carriers around the world as RIM officially announced the device just yesterday.  Now Rogers Wireless is getting some dummy units into their stores, ready to display on shelf soon hopefully.  There’s still no pricing available for Bold 9780 yet, but expect to pay an arm and a leg for a short term contract as that’s how Canada rolls.

We got the word from RIM earlier today that a new application is in town called “You Make the Call.”  The purpose of the application is to allow you to test your baseball knowledge and learn about plays in the game.  Features include:

  • Baseball video challenges that provide three possible answers and 10 seconds to choose correctly
  • Answers and explanations that review key elements of play
  • Intense competition – players can win points, see where they rank against others, beat their own score, and even challenge a friend

From my own personal experience, it hasn’t worked well on my Torch at all and the file is BIG.  I tried it on my Bold 9700 as well but the screen stays black and the phone takes a break from functioning for a while before coming back to life again.  Then eight minutes later, music started playing and video came up.  It locked up again.  Then I am prompted to the main menu of the application.  Also, it doesn’t appear to be in App World but we have a direct IP address link below.  I’m confused.

This is actually quite impressive.  I have to admit I was a bit disappointed not being able to surf the web via the BlackBerry PlayBook simulator.  Surprisingly, a developer came along the way and built one that works really well on it.  As you can see in the video above, sites render really fast but again it’s hard to tell because we’re not using the actual device in hand.  Even so, it’s nice to see how far along developers are going with the BlackBerry PlayBook so far having a web browser built from scratch for starters.
