I don’t know about all of you but I use my BlackBerry for my mobile MP3-age.  Maybe not all the time, but when I am on the road, or traveling somewhere, I do go about it.  Certainly many of you own iPods on the side to handle all your music but in the end everybody uses headphones or earbuds.  Over the past month, I’ve been testing out the Wicked Empire Lucky earbuds to see how well they worked on the go in crowded areas, or even in quiet spots zoned out.  So we decided to do a quick review here walking through some general specifics on them.  Keep in mind we are BlackBerry people, so if there’s anything in the review you’d like to know or want us to add in, kindly drop us a line.

The wait is over and a major US carrier finally rocks the BlackBerry Pearl 3G.  We saw this device announced first at WES 2010 and expected it to hit the US shortly after, but the time did not come until now.  In addition to the Pearl 3G, AT&T has launched the BlackBerry Curve 3G as well, which not many are excited for since it is available for Verizon and T-Mobile and sports some pretty low specs.  Any way, as far as pricing goes, the Pearl 3G goes for $149.99 after rebate while the Curve 3G gets 100 bucks after rebates.  Hit the link below to check out the two new devices including others offered at AT&T.

Dropbox recently launched for BlackBerry, and ever since, it looks like they are staying on top of updates making sure everything works well for the app.  I’ve used it many times in the past for the iPad and iPhone and it works pretty flawless in my opinion.  Since the early app launch, it seemed to have quite a few bugs where I think most of have addressed in this latest v1.0.34 update.

  • saving non-ascii texts results in garbled text
  • handling of edge cases when running out of space on sd card and in device memory
  • open-edit-upload usecase wasn’t working for devices with encryption enabled
  • share link freezes for some users
  • open-edit-upload usecase fails for files with non-ascii filenames
  • “would you like to allow logging” dialog shouldn’t appear on first launch
  • on rotatable devices, in image gallery, the displayed/cached image is smaller than screen size (shouldn’t happen)
  • app should ask for permissions in advance on first launch
  • app should support multiple third-party app associations for a given file type (e.g multiple pdf viewers)
  • music/video stops when screen fades out
  • user gets a “not enough room

Dropbox is free as you know by now.  They do have premium services where you get more space to save info.  The initial freebie version comes with 2GB, which most of you can sit on just fine.  Click the link below to download or update Dropbox for BlackBerry over the air.

We tweeted earlier about this, but figured we’d post about it as well since a tweet doesn’t always suffice.  To get right to the point, SocialScope is now officially supported on BlackBerry 6 OS and the BlackBerry Torch 9800.  I have successfully had it working today on the Torch 9800, Curve 9330, and Bold 9650 all running a 6.0 OS.  Along with the new support, some new features have been added:

  • Swipe left and right to switch tabs
  • When reading a message swipe left and right to switch message
  • Double tap a tab icon to go to the top of the message list
  • Search twitter from your home screen through universal search
  • Go to your friend’s profiles from the home screen through universal search
  • Crazy fast scrolling
  • Super low battery usage

So if you have an account, just login and download it over the air or sign up to get a invite.

Awesome.  So everyone in North America should of realized that this morning BIS 3.2 has officially updated in your BlackBerry smartphones.  It’s been a while waiting, but I’m glad to see Calendar sync at last so we can finally get rid of third party apps which sync it all up for us (sorry Google Sync).  There’s a few other changes here some of you may not of been aware of before such as the new password requirements or event the auto login enhancements.  Here’s the full scoop of changes:

  • Google Calendar Sync – The option to sync your Gmail calendar with your BlackBerry calendar
  • Automatic Login Enhancement – User name and Password in order to access the BlackBerry Internet Service no longer required when on your BlackBerry
  • Show and Hide Password Option – Subscribers can choose to show or hide the passwords for all email addresses that need to be validated by clicking the Show password or Hide password options.
  • New Password Criteria – Newly created passwords for BlackBerry Internet Service accounts and BlackBerry email addresses must meet new criteria.
    • Must include 8 to 16 characters
    • Must include at least one letter and one number
    • Cannot include the word “password”
    • Cannot include the user name of the BlackBerry Internet Service account or BlackBerry email address that the password is associated with

So head over to your email settings and activate the Calendar options or try out other features if you will.

Something we didn’t notice before here.  It turns out that Aces Jewel Hunt as a freebie version available at the BlackBerry App World, for those of you who don’t want to dish out money to buy it.  I’m not exactly sure where the limitations are in this version but if any of you give it a go, drop us a line and we’ll update our post.

UPDATE: Free version only allows you to play on EASY mode.  Thanks papped!

It’s a funny question to ask because just as assumed, most go for bigger – because bigger is always better.  Some tweeted and left comments saying that it depended on the price while others just casted their votes in.  Here are the stats:

  • 16GB -30.63%
  • 32GB – 69.37%

So the majority would for the 32GB while about a third would rather go for the lower 16GB model.  For those in favor of the smaller size, it could be for the obvious reason that it will be offered cheapter than the 32GB or the user finds no need for a lot of memory.  Personally with my iPad, I went with the mid range 32GB just to be safe, but I am finding myself not really putting movies and music on there a lot and use it more for browsing and moderate typing.  So that’s my theory on those who want the 16GB.  As for the others, just like i said before – bigger is better!

It doesn’t look like BlackBerry 6 yet for the BlackBerry Bold 9650.  All three devices: the Bold 9650, Tour 9630, and Curve 8530 are all getting official updates from Verizon Wireless today according to a tip from PhoneScoop.  The updates will be providing “enhancements” to the device whatever that means – hopefully will make things move a bit faster on the OS.  It is expected to be at 6PM eastern time, so don’t keep checking for updates all day long until then.

So we can’t be so far away from launch if Sprint stores are starting to roll in the promotion materials.  Here’s a little screen capture of what looks to be a flyer promoting the BlackBerry Style 9670 which clarifies a few things.  It will come out of the box with BlackBerry 6 – we weren’t really doubting it before to begin with.  It will be a Sprint exclusive device so we won’t be seeing Verizon rockin’ it – for now.

It does say keep in mind for launch events on the bottom, so perhaps we’ll be seeing further promo with this, not as big as the BlackBerry Torch 9800 though.  In any case, this is the first QWERTY flip phone from RIM.  Who’s excited?
