Last night I spotted out a website finally that has all those BBM “ghost” pictures collected all into one mobile site.  You can highlight over the pictures to see what they’d look like on your BBM list when people scrolled over it also.  So now you all have your fix.  Enjoy!

While browsing through the PocketBerry Store, I came across Chopper, a new game added to the Games section.  Chopper is based off an old school flash game I used to play years and years ago called Copter.  On a PC, you basically held the mouse button down when you want the helicopter to go up, and released the mouse which resulted in the helicopter going down.  No one is saying this is a spoofed version or anything but it looks exactly the same to me.  On your BlackBerry, just hold down the space bar instead of the native mouse button we were all used to.  It’s on sale for only 99 cents as it’ll go back up to $1.99 later.

At DEVCON this year, we had the opportunity to check out the folks over at iSpeech who are famous for their app DriveSafe.ly.  Traditionally we were able to have all sorts of messages read to us while driving along with voice caller ID as well.  Now in version 2.0, you can actually respond to text messages using your voice.

Aside from that great new feature, iSpeech has opened its API so that third party app developers can implement the text to speech and automated speech recognition into applications.

“We have seen overwhelming demand for voice‐enabled apps such as DriveSafe.ly and Caller ID Reader. We are excited to make this technology easily available to the mobile development community at large,” says Yaron Oren, iSpeech Chief Marketing Officer.

OS Updates »

We just got word from RIM on an official change log for the latest and greatest OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800.  Some of the changes were obvious – the most important one was the homescreen being oh so sluggish navigating back and forth (left and right).  This hasn’t been fully resolved yet but it definitely does navigate a lot smoother on 6.0.0.246 than it did before on .141.  Here’s the full change log from RIM:

  • Browser – faster page loading and improved panning
  • User input – handled more efficiently, improved responsiveness after unlocking device
  • Applications – faster launching, exiting and switching
  • Home Screen – faster rendering and smoother transitions when switching between panes
  • Media – faster rendering of thumbnails in picture application
  • Email/Messaging – faster and smoother scrolling in message list and when reading email
  • Voice- Software improvements for improved audio quality

Wireless updates should be pushing out within the next week and a half according to RIM, but if you’d like to do it manually through BlackBerry Desktop Manager, just click here to download the full OS from BlackBerry.

This is nasty.  I don’t see any sick thrills with this at all but I did find it funny.  It is only for the iPhone of course, but I figured this one would be funny for our readers as well just for a laugh even.  Would you get a charger like this for your BlackBerry?

According to this leaked out advertisement, Virgin Mobile will be getting the BlackBerry Bold 9780 on October 21st which sooner than we realistically expected carriers to be providing it.  The going price is $149 with the SuperTab or contract where there isn’t a no strings attached price listed.  As a quick recap, the Bold 9780 is a refresh model of the Bold 9700 but has 512MB, a 5MP camera, and BlackBerry 6.

Here’s a quick roundup of some nice utilities you should all get on your BlackBerry Torch 9800 – if you’re rockin’ one.  You’ll see that some of these titles are familiar and are available for models other than the Torch, but we found them to be useful for the Torch – maybe not all of them together but you pick and choose what you like!  Some are free and others are premium.

About a month ago, we let you know about Rubik’s Cube officially launching for BlackBerry through Bplay.  As I was browsing in the PocketBerry Store, I found that it’s available there as well.  So if you all have a MobiHand account and like to keep all your apps and games in one place, this is a good spot to grab a copy.  We’re glad to see that it supports the Torch already since it tends to take quite a while for compatibility to be there once a new device with a new OS launches.  Hooray.  As a quick recap, the Rubik’s Cube game features:

  • Classic 3x3x3 cube
  • Alternative cube sizes: 2x2x2, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5
  • Track your time and number of moves to solve the cube
  • Compare your stats on-line
  • Included solution guide to help you solve the cube

It’s only $4.99 to buy and as we mentioned before it does support the BlackBerry Torch 9800.
