LinkedIn for BlackBerry just got updated to v1.5.0.8 today bringing good news to BlackBerry 6 users – yes, it’s now supported! Here’s the full change log:

  • BlackBerry OS 6.0 Support: Since the launch of the Torch and the more recent opportunities to upgrade existing devices, we’ve been inundated with requests through our feedback email address and customer support. Given that users were blocked from using the application on OS 6.0 for several technical reasons, we made this our top priority for the release.
  • Profile Design Refresh: Viewing member profiles is the #1 activity users do today in the application. We’ve re-designed the profile completely to make it easier to see and interact with all the information on it, while also adding two new features. We’ve been asked by many users for the ability to view the connections of the people they are connected to, as well as to see who they have in common with people on the site. Those new features are now available right at the top of the profile.

If you can’t remember, AGF was one of the first to launch cases and holsters for the BlackBerry Torch 9800, as we saw them at the launch event live in New York back in August.  They are back again with a new Ballistic line of cases.  These are heavy duty ones and resemble those high end OtterBox Defender cases.  What’s cool about the Ballistic case is that it comes in 5 layers:

  • Layer 1 – Inner rubber for protecting your phone’s finish and drop/shock
  • Layer 2 – Rigid structural frame
  • Layer 3 – Outer shock absorption rubber
  • Layer 4 – Removable outer silicone rubber shock-absorption layer with connector plug/seals
  • Layer 5 – Durable screen protector

That’s pretty serious.  You can check out the Ballistic cases at their website, but they don’t seem to be in stock at the moment so feel free to leave your email and info to be notified when they are back in.  Retail price is $50, as most of you expected from a high end case like this.  Currently only the 8500 and 9300 series are the only ones supported but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more models.

Last night BlackBerry Messenger v5.0.1.41 launched.  Some of you already had this version if you installed a leaked OS, one off hand is 6.0.0.246 for the Torch that I know of.  There was no change log this time at all so it is assumed to be a bug fix.  Drop us a line if you’ve seen any changes since you’ve updated.  If you had no idea about the new update, you can hit the link below to download it.

  • Make wish lists, share deals with friends, and receive special offers
  • Track prices and get alerts for out-of-stock items

Since we didn’t get a hands on experience with the BlackBerry PlayBook, nor did we see Mike Lazaridis do anything with it during DEVCON 2010, it was assumed that the QNX OS for it is still not ready and pretty much in the works.  This screenshot above was taken at the Gartner Symposium in Orlando where RIM had a PlayBook on display at their booth but it seemed that the video demo that keeps looping bumped into some kind of error and caused this back-end admin screen to show.

The only thing this really says is that RIM isn’t really close to being ready with the PlayBook launch at all, since this is what we’re seeing.  It definitely looks a lot more different than what we’ve seen in the demo video.  So by seeing the PlayBook so far behind, do you really expect to see RIM launch it in Q1 of 2011?

Firstly, thank you all for participating!  Even though this was a short notice event, we’re glad that many of you joined in, so without further interruptions the winner for the BBM Lounge Party for Mark Salling of Glee is….Kevin!

Congrats on winning! Winner does get to bring one guest along to the Mark Selling Record Release event hosted by Xomad and RIM.  As you all know, winners have one hour to respond back or else another winner gets chosen so check back again in case we don’t hear back from the winner.

There’s another free FM radio application out for BlackBerry. This one’s called TuneIn, and yes it is free.  It allows you to tune into your favorite radio stations right on your BlackBerry.  Of course, it does eat away your battery but hey, it’s streaming audio.

The cool thing about it besides having over 50,000 stations, it uses your built-in GPS to trigger down what radio stations are in your area.  Since the application is free, expect to see advertisements here and there, but it shouldn’t bother you.

For those of you stuck in the past on the BlackBerry Storm 9530, there’s a new leaked OS for you.  This one’s OS 5.0.0.871.  I haven’t been able to to try it out on my throwback Storm but any of you who have them hangin’ around, feel free to try.
