BlackBerry App World reaches 15,000 applications
by Otoniel Bruno
It’s official. BlackBerry App World now rocks 15,000 applications and counting for you all to enjoy. Still a bit behind iOS and Android (many of which seem useless any way), a wide variety of applications are available. While browsing through App World, I realize there are one too many eBooks and themes out there that get counted as “apps.” Themes is something RIM needs to work on through the approval process of App World as I see too many that really don’t qualify as being a whole new theme to download. Some are stocked out Precision style themes with different backgrounds or will just have a “cooler” swipe when going from screen to screen.
In my opinion, it shouldn’t ever be a race of who has more apps, but more or so on who has quality apps. As mentioned before, Apple does rock 300,000 some apps while Android gets about 100,000.
On the same token, there’s a lot of worthy applications available in App World, and I hope we continue seeing more and more as BlackBerry 6 is here among us, giving developers more tools to work with. I’d like to see more applications get integrated in Universal Search and perhaps classify as a Super App also. So let’s see more quality applications roll out!
