BlackBook is the ideal application for those snooping around when they shouldn’t be but I guess if you just want to keep it on the down-low for whatever reason, that’s your right. With BlackBook, you can have hidden contacts and assign them fake names so when they call, that name will display on the caller ID. Also, you can have private SMS messaging with your “friend” without it ever showing up in your inbox. You basically assign a combination of hot keys to press that will open up BlackBook. This way you won’t get caught. So BlackBook has just updated to version 3.0 last night bringing the following new features:
- Enhanced SMS Filtering (No more Firewall)
- Threaded SMS
- Revamped GUI
- Backup / Restore Contacts
- Real-time Contact Searching
- Contact Photos
- Hot Key / Shortcuts
- OS 6.0 Support
For those leading the discreet lifestyle, BlackBook is available at the PocketBerry Store for only $4.99.

Facebook for BlackBerry recently updated to version 1.9 as you all know by now. One of the newest and biggest features in this version is Facebook Places. Other mobile platforms have been on Places for a while so it’s very much new to us BlackBerry users. Foursquare has been among us forever now, and it’s very popular among BlackBerry users. So with Facebook Places beign easy accessible, do you let Foursquare go or just check-in twice everywhere?

So the mission of the LOL app for BlackBerry is to make you laugh. Apparently it includes funny pictures, jokes, and funny links. There’s not much to it other than that, but it is free so download it to see for yourselves.

For all you Sam’s Club members who just so happen to own BlackBerry smartphones (that should be highly likely), there’s a mobile application for you. Here are main features:
- Locate and get driving directions to any Sam’s Club – narrow the selection by services, including: Photo, Gas, Tire and Battery and more
- Get in-depth product details and Member reviews by using the built-in barcode scanner or searching the product catalog
- Sam’s Club Plus Members: check your account to see your available eValues℠
- Check product availability and featured items by Club
- Get updates and alerts about your Membership, eValues℠, featured products, local Club events and more
- Browse an extended product selection at SamsClub.com
- View information about your Club including hours of operation, contact information and a detailed Club map
As a proud Sam’s Club member, I haven’t tried this application but probably will. I’m not so sure if I need the features it provides although some of you may want to indulge into it more.

This is actually a useful free application you should all download. Let’s face it – barcode scanning is in this season with BlackBerry and other smartphones. Barcode Assistant is a free application that allows you to scan a website barcode from your web browser, create barcodes from the current website, contact, calendar event, or even task. Here’s the full features list:
- Scan a website barcode from the web browser.
- Create a barcode of the current web page from the browser menu.
- Create and Scan personal barcode from the Contact List.
- Create and Scan events from the Calendar.
- Create and Scan tasks from the Task app.
- Create Location barcode using GPS location.
- Scanned Geo Locations can be opened in BB Maps or Google Maps.
- Create, website, email, twitter, and other barcodes.
So it’s definitely pretty useful in my opinion and I think it’s really cool that you can create barcodes for just about anything on your BlackBerry through this free app.

It has definitely been a long time since we heard anything about the YouMail client for BlackBerry. We just got the word yesterday that they have updated their application. Here’s the full change log:
- Better speed and reliability, with new status indicators that tell the user the precise status of their connectivity and data transmission.
- Improvements to YouMail’s already one-of-a-kind voice-to-text service designed to save users time and better inform them of data transcription status. YouMail is also offering a free trial of YouMail’s human-edited transcriptions.
- Bug fixes that allow for better interactivity with other apps, like DexRex, and improve the overall stability of the application, as well as improved functionality of services for YouMail premium subscribers and voice mail transcription.
Oh yes, the giveaway. We are giving out ten free copies of the premium YouMail to our readers. This is a short and sweet giveaway and winners will be given the product key immediately after winning. Giveaway will go on until tomorrow 12PM EST and the winners will be chosen right after. Good luck to all!

Chatmosphere, the fairly new IRC client for BlackBerry got updated last night fixing some small bugs and added BlackBerry Bold 9780 support. Also there’s support for other OS6 devices, where it doesn’t seem to clarify in the change log. We’re guessing this is towards the Pearl 3G, Style 9670, and Curve 3G. In any case, whether or not you have an IRC client, you should definitely check out Chatmosphere for BlackBerry.
Also, there’s a 14-day trial if you’re not committed to buy it right away, so give it a go if interested.
