This poll came really close to being 50/50. I was kind of surprised to see that the Pearl still had loyal fans. The results I was expecting here was that more would lean on no interest in the Pearl 3G at all across the board. Little did I know, there’s still quite a community out there that appreciates the Pearl , but would be more fond of it with BlackBerry 6 OS on it. The results were:
- Yes – 53.85%
- No – 46.15%
So not much a tie breaker here, and it’s a slim win for those interested in the Pearl 3G with BlackBerry 6 OS on it. After posting this poll up, I actually had the chance to try out the BlackBerry Pearl 3G with 6.0 on it. I must say it does change the experience up quite a bit, and you start to appreciate the form factor of the Pearl a lot more with its small size yet powerful capabilities the BlackBerry 6 has to offer.

By demand of developers, RIM has put out some sample codes that are fully functional and can be used by developers. The two samples put out are for RSS reader and a weather application. Here’s the full description from the BlackBerry Developer’s Blog:
The RSS application allows you to set any RSS feed you’d like and pull down the content on the fly. It lets you manage those RSS feeds in an easy-to-use UI, and it stores your feeds for you so they’ll always be ready when you are. This sample app demonstrates the use of a great UI, tight integration with other apps (BlackBerry Browser and Messaging applications), GPS, and integration into the BlackBerry Menu as well as how to go out over the network to retrieve and use content effectively.
The Weather application really demonstrates the blending of a fantastic UI with functionality. I have to say that this one really looks great, and is so easy to use! This sample app also shows off the use of a great UI, File I/O, GPS, and solid integration into the BlackBerry Menu. (Note that both of these apps were designed for use on the 5.0 OS.)
So no BlackBerry 6 compatibility here, but it’s some nice code you developers can peak into and play around with or even implement into your own apps.

Today at 2PM EST, the BlackBerry PlayBook webcast will start. Just as a quick recap, we’ll be seeing more on the PlayBook SDK and how it performs. Also, we should be seeing some “hands-on” with Adobe Flash as that’s what the PlayBook is mainly pushing out so developers can tune into that.
You can click here to register for the webcast if you haven’t already. Tune in at 2PM today!

I’ve seen people use the very tiny font because they are really comfortable with it seeing more text in the screen or are afraid of others looking over the shoulder and reading messages. Then there’s others who like the larger fonts allowing short and quicker glances at the screen allowing the brain to pick up text faster (that’s a theory some say). So cast your votes above, tweet us, or drop a line in the comments!

Something cool I just picked up on the BlackBerry Pearl 3G running BlackBerry 6 OS is that you can have three rows of icons on the homescreen. Yes the Pearl does only have 5 icons across rather than the 6 seen on other QWERTY devices so it is kind of a convenience to have here. It would be nice to have on other devices such as the Curve 3G and the Bold 9700, but they only allow up to two rows which isn’t so bad as well.
Have any of you Pearl 3G users picked up any other goodies in 6.0?

Maybe not many of you picked up a BlackBerry Style 9670, but for those who have and would like to stay on top of their OS builds, here’s the latest leak. OS 6.0.0.286 for the Style has just surfaced and we’re surprised that it isn’t a newer and later version as we’ve seen for other devices including the Bold 9700, Pearl 3G, and Curve 3G. I’m not sure how buggy or stable this build is, but if you’ve got a Style, feel free to check it out.

Well when are they going to stop? It’s a bit much to see a 5.0.0.1015. That should very well be a BlackBerry 6 OS as they’ve taken it way to far with Storm 2 builds. Any way, if you’re still rockin’ a Storm 2 9550, you can feel free to grab this leaked version. Back to 6.0, it didn’t work well at all on the device according to the rumors circulation, so I guess it was best to stick with 5.0, and update it to its maximum potential – hence the .1015 version.

So the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 gets the same 6.0 fix as both the Bold 9700 and Pearl 3G. All are at version .344, which wasn’t too stable on my Bold 9700 so I don’t see it being all that on here either. I’m sure it’s still better than the other Curve 3G builds we’ve seen. In any case, download and install at your own risk!
