So just when you thought the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 was not getting any more updates, a new one has rolled out.  Ehab let me know that he got a new OS for his Storm 2 this morning.  This one we were expecting to see roll out since we saw the leaked version not too long ago.  Verizon Wireless has picked this version up officially so you’ll be able to download it on your computers, and hopefully OTA.

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! We know not everyone is celebrating it today, but it’s always good to be thankful for all the things you have any way.  Some of you have an early start on your Thanksgiving meals (as early as 12pm noon), so make sure you get all the rest you need before going out in the middle of the night for some Black Friday shopping!  For everyone else eating later on, the countdown begins!

Well it’s no surprise that Apple is trying to compete with RIM when it comes to Enterprise.  We keep hearing about companies switching over to the iPhone or piloting the device for a bit over the BlackBerry.  Some interesting information came to surface today in regards to Apple.  The five employees listed below were formerly part of RIM, and have been recruited by Apple now in best hopes to increase enterprise for the iPhone.

  • Geoff Perfect was head of strategic sales
  • Joe Bartlett was a senior global sales manager
  • Steve Marshall was a global strategic account manager
  • Peter Decker was a global account manager
  • Paul Alvarez was a global strategic account manager

So a BlackBerry strategy is being attempted at Apple.  This totally goes against Apple saying that they are way ahead of RIM with their products and have no concern about it.  The funny part is, this information was spotted on LinkedIn publicly where anyone can see hires and fires of employees.

Surprisingly, many of you are using Social Feeds on BlackBerry 6.  For myself, I’m not used to many new aspects of the new OS other than Universal Search which I have adapted to.  There’s the new Notifications page also which is something I’m not so used to using.  Social Feeds comes in next where I was curious if anyone actually used it.  Here are the results:

  • No 43.55%

So yeah, I guess there’s a large community using it, it’s a little over half – well more than I expected to begin with.  It’s a matter of time until we get used to knew bells and whistles that BlackBerry 6 has to offer, or perhaps we’ll continue using our devices the way we always have, not taking on new innovations in the OS.

To clear it all up a bit, I guess we can all agree that there’s going to be features you end up not using with your BlackBerry, Social Feeds turned out to be one of those for me and some others who voted.

According to Mobility Insider, some BlackBerry PlayBook pricing has surfaced.  There is no screenshot of any fact sheet or anything, but more of a tip from some unknown source here.  So here’s the rumored pricing:

  • 8GB: $399
  • 16GB: $499
  • 32GB: $599

Did that really say 8GB? Hmmm.. that seems a little fishy to me.

We’ve posted about AppLock a few times in the past, and I believe it has reached to be the Deal of the Day special not too long ago.  Today, it’s 67% off, making it only 99 cents to purchase.  AppLock is great for those who like privacy and feel the need to lock apps, messages, and files on their BlackBerry smartphones.

It’s not even a quick flash of the BlackBerry PlayBook.  In this video we see will.i.am take it out a few times and look at the screen for long periods of time.  It’s definitely the PlayBook as we’re all familiar with its dimensions, and the first time he whips it out, we see the BlackBerry logo right on the back of it.  So will.i.am has a PlayBook in hand – damn.  Hit the jump to watch the full video.

So there’s been a bit of buzz on Kik Messenger over the last few weeks as to why it has been removed from BlackBerry App World.  Kik kept restating their positive and optimistic relationship with RIM, and that they will continue efforts to get Kik back up and running on BlackBerry, but RIM has put out an official statement regarding the whole matter:

RIM became aware of a number of issues and customer concerns regarding the Kik app and service. Following discussions with Kik, the app was removed from BlackBerry App World on November 12. Upon further investigation, RIM concluded that Kik had breached contractual obligations. Based on the broad scope and seriousness of the issues and concerns, RIM terminated its agreements with Kik and withdrew RIM’s support for Kik’s service.

So things don’t really look good for Kik Messenger coming back to BlackBerry as it seems RIM had discovered some breaches in the application itself.  Perhaps Kik will re-evaluate their application and give it another go, but to me it seems like another messenger gone sour.
