I guess BlackBerry Messenger is the new thing to chant about in music nowadays. We’ve seen Ping Me Baby by Riz in the past, and now we see Sean Kingston with Soulja Boy and Teairra Mari getting in on the same action. This one’s called “BBM.”

Here’s an application we forgot about for a long time and haven’t had much of any coverage on lately. Beyond160 is the application for all you BlackBerry users who are limited by your carrier in typing 140-160 characters only in text messaging. Some of the famous carriers who put this restriction are Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, US Cellular, Bell, Telus, and pretty much all other CDMA carriers in the world. So Beyond160 lets you exceed that limit and type beyond 160 characters – hence the appropriate name of the app
. Features include:
- A must-have application for users on Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, U.S. Cellular, Bell, Telus, and all other CDMA carriers with a 160 (or 140) character limit when composing a text message.
- Field full? Simply hit Menu –> Go Beyond160 and continue typing as much as you want.
- Make your message as long as you want and Beyond160 will automatically send it in multiple parts with the appropriate markers… (1/3), (2/3), (3/3).
- Send to one recipient, multiple recipients, or even contact groups you’ve created.
- If you’re tired of re-wording your text to try and make it fit… If you’re tired of creating another message just to finish your thoughts… If you’re tired of switching to MMS and not knowing if they’ll receive it… Then get Beyond160 and experience the freedom!
- Beyond160 will also work with QuickText, if installed, so try them both for the ultimate in texting efficiency.
- Fully Operational 14 Day Trial Period
- PLEASE NOTE – Each message part is just like a normal SMS text message sent from your BlackBerry. So, if you don’t have an unlimited text messaging plan, then carrier charges may apply. For example… If you type a message that is 350 characters long, Beyond160 will send it in 3 parts, which is the same as sending 3 individual text messages.
As a Deal of the Day special Beyond160 is only $3.49 to purchase, saving you 50% instantly. If you’re looking to fit more text when using SMS, then definitely check out this app.

Carrier News »

So Sprint had originally launched the BlackBerry Style 9670 at the end of last month, and Telus immediately announced that they will be carrying the device soon. We only saw stock images of the Style with Telus wallpaper at that time, but still had no indication of a date or set price. So today we see that Telus is putting out dummy units to retail locations for show.
There still is no confirmed launch date yet, but the suggested (and rumored) price will be $399.99 with no strings attached. Bell is already in line for the device at a confirmed launch date of November 23rd, where we are hoping we don’t see any delays as we did with the BlackBerry Bold 9780. In any case, stay tuned for more as we get more info on the BlackBerry Style 9670 coming to Telus.

OS Updates »

Along with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS leak today came the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 with the same version. Here’s OS 6.0.0.358 for the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, hopefully a more stable build than what we had before this model. In any case, download and install at your own risk.

OS Updates »

Awesome. So the last 6.0.0.344 was nice to see on the BlackBerry Bold 9700, given that it was the first leaked BlackBerry 6 OS for that device. Along with that OS version came a lot of bugs, and many unhappy users, but I found it to be good and usable still (minus all the crashes from Universal Search). So here’s a new build – 6.0.0.388, which will hopefully resolve some of those bugs and crashes we encountered previously. It’s for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, and remember since it is leaked, download and install at your own risk.

ScanLife, the application for scanning barcodes of all kinds just got a new update adding some goodies you might like. Here’s the full add-on list:
- Local prices via Milo.com. Scan the code to see what other local stores currently have the product in-stock and how the price at one compares to another down the block. Great for local price checks when doing last minute holiday shopping.
- Digital coupons from Coupons.com. Scan a code from a product in your home or on the go to get relevant coupons from top manufacturers. Customers can scan a box of cereal or bottle of shampoo to find and print coupons for savings in the store. This is a useful new feature considering that over 30 percent of ScanLife traffic comes from everyday products like groceries and personal care.
- Nutrition information via Food Essentials. Scan the code to see if there are specific allergens like gluten or peanuts in a specific food, or get other health information like calories and sugars. Food Essentials has built the database over the last six years by collecting food label data and manually parsing the individual ingredients.
For those who haven’t tried ScanLife before, it is absolutely free to download. It comes pre-installed in some BlackBerry models today, but in case you’ve been missing out on the action, you can grab a copy free at getscanlife.com

There’s quite a few RSS feed readers for BlackBerry available now, BerryReader being one of the most popular (and my personal favorite). A new one has hit App World called XPRSS which is free and actually isn’t that bad at all for what you get. Features include:
- - Supports feed management (add/delete/edit)
- - Provides 3 different ways to add feed ( feed url, website search, topic search)
- - Configurable for personal feeds like myLinkedIn using automatic URL shortening with bit.ly
- - Supports in-app email sharing
- - Supports facebook, twitter and linkedIn sharing
- - Supports RSS 2.0 and ATOM 1.0
Surely it doesn’t have as many options as BerryReader, but it is free. You can grab a copy of XPRSS at BlackBerry App World for free.
