So yesterday we ran a poll to see how you all thought about the infamous “Jim Balsamic” spam message on BBM.  It was forwarded around a lot to many folks, and we were really curious to see how many of you actually thought it was real to the point that you forwarded it around.

Unfortunately the results that came in are a bit contradicting.  If the message was forwarded so much (which those who forwarded believed the message to be true), then the numbers would of been higher in my opinion for those who voted “yes” to believing it.

So here were the results for each answer:

• Yes, I thought it was legit! – 6.06%
• No, it was obviously fake! – 67.68%
• I never received that spam message. – 26.26%

Only 6.06% said that they thought it was legit? Pretty interesting, and I certainly expected numbers to be higher on that one given that the message circulated around to many.  Then we have 67.68% who knew it was fake, glad some of you are bright.  Then 26.26% never received this message at all (lucky people).

So what does this mean? I’m sure many of you who received it and knew it was fake still forwarded it any way.  I’m doubting that with a number as low as 6% of people who believed it who did all the forwarding.

BBM spamming has been going on since broadcast messaging took off.  It’s become really popular this year as we’ve seen all sorts of messages which attempt at threatening the future state of your BlackBerry contacts and such.
