The other day we posted up about a notorious BBM spam message circulating that was said to be from a “Jim Balsamic” as RIM’s co-CEO (which is really Balsillie).  So based on how many people we found that it reached out to, we wanted to run a poll all day today just to see how many of you actually forwarded it out, believing what was said in it.  So cast your votes in, tweet us, and certainly drop us a line in the comments about your experience.

ScoreMobile for BlackBerry has just updated to version 1.6 now adding some nice goodies.  I’m excited more or so because MMA is now supported as a sport since I am a fan.  There are times where I’m not watching the fights live on TV and want to know what the updates are.  That applies for all other sports too that I follow, and that’s why ScoreMobile’s a great application for me.  Back to the update, here’s the full change log:

  • added MMA as a new sport
  • fixed NCAAB Schedules issue
  • navigation refinements
  • bug fixes & performance enhancements

To update, head over to BlackBerry App World on your BlackBerry and you should see an update available.  Otherwise you can go to the app on the web store and download it manually.

As you all know by now, Call of Duty: Black Ops is one of the most popular games to play nowadays, and quite addictive.  In the past, we’ve seen Modern Warfare launch for BlackBerry, and now Black Ops has made its way as well.  Here’s the stock description from Bplay:

Undertake missions Assault, Recon, Sniper, Vehicle, Sabotage and Defense missions to test your military mettle. There are no guarantees for victory in Black Ops Mobile… only guarantees for ACTION.Undertake 15 different covert missions such as eliminating all hostiles from your perimeter, stealing an enemy patrol boat and planting explosives to blow up an enemy training camp. How you complete each mission will vary – apart from assault & recon missions, there are also Sniper, Vehicle, Sabotage and Defense missions to test your military mettle.

The folks over at All Things D have put up a video on highlights from a sit down interview with RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.  It gets a bit defensive here as Lazaridis gets questioned about competition and how BlackBerry smartphones now are lacking high resolution displays along with faster processors as we see today everywhere else.

We got the word from BerryReview that IM+ for BlackBerry now has a v4.3 beta out which is testing out Skype VoIP calls over 3G and EDGE networks.  Traditionally, we’d have to be on WiFi to make a VoIP call, but it looks like SHAPE Services is trying to see how it can work best over the carrier’s network as well.  If you’re interesting in grabbing the beta, click here.

The screenshot above is an example of a VoIP call via IM+ using WiFi.

In the Dive Into Mobile video, Mike Lazaridis sort of gives an awkward answer to different size tablets and suggests that they do have different sized tablets.  Lazaridis says “ummm we’ve got different sizes potentially.”  I’m not sure if this is something up and coming, prototypes, or plans for the futures, but we do know he said it, and that’s more than enough confirmation for us!

Here’s another hands on video with the BlackBerry PlayBook as we’ve seen buzzing over the web for the last few weeks.  In this video, we see the RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis demo out the PlayBook at the Dive Into Mobile conference.  I’m seeing that the PlayBook is becoming more and more responsive as a tablet, as the first few leaked clips we see it being a little sluggish and far behind.

What bothers me here is that Lazaridis seems to be bouncing around questions a little bit here and unclear about RIM’s future.  There’s a part where the host asks about larger size tablets and Mike finally suggests that there are other sizes, whatever that means.  He didn’t do a great job defending a 7 inch screen either.

FIFA ’11 has recently launched for BlackBerry from EA Games.  As far as it being different from last years, I’m seeing that the game play looks a lot better, and I’m sure the teams are updated with their rosters and ranks as well.  Here’s the stock description via Bplay:

Feel the new thrill of night games and penalty shootouts in EA SPORTS FIFA 11! Play in 10 official European leagues or take on the Euro knockout tournamentWE ARE 11! Feel the new thrill of night games and penalty shootouts in EA SPORTS FIFA 11! Be a pro and play in 10 official European leagues, join the knockout tournament or just practice your free kick skills. Join Kaka, Rooney, Lampard, Benzema and other superstars in the world’s #1 football game on mobile!

I would suggest larger screen BlackBerrys for this one, just because it looks like there’s a lot going on here, but you be the judge of that.  If you’re still really interested, head over to Bplay to check out more information on FIFA ’11.
