We’ve seen the BlackBerry PlayBook in action performing all sorts of tasks, loading multiple apps, gaming, and more. What we haven’t seen much on is the business side of it and how well it communicates with your actual BlackBerry. So here’s a quick sneak peek on that. Enjoy!

Rumors »

This one’s up in the air as a rumor, but Simon over at IntoMobile heard from some sources about the BlackBerry Bold Touch (codename Montana), and the BlackBerry Storm 3 (codename Monaco) launching for Sprint by the end of quarter 2 this year. According the the leaked CDMA BlackBerry roadmap for 2011 that we saw last week, both of these devices are scheduled for Q3 this year, but the rumor surfaced now suggests end of Q2. So it’s pretty much borderline to be between Q2 and Q3, but it’s good news in general that Sprint will be getting both of these devices.

This is an interesting concept that could actually do well. I spotted in the PocketBerry Store a new app called Rah Digga’s Straight Spittin Beta. It claims itself to be the first rap freestyling battle application. Here’s the stock description:
This is a salute to real MCs. The world’s first true Battle Rap App. Battle rap any user in the world, or just rehearse your rhymes and hone your skills in private. Be a spectator and vote or just talk smack. Made for MCs by an MC — Rah Digga brings you Straight Spittin.
From the look of it, you’ll be able to battle rap users around the world in freestyle rap. The application is free to download so I suggest any of you folks with good talents or ones looking to have some fun to definitely check this one out.

Chatmosphere IRC was always a premium application since it launched, but it looks like they have just launched a free version and is now available to download. I don’t see any differences in the descriptions as they both state having the same features (correct me if I’m wrong) so I assume this one’s ad supported. For those who haven’t heard of Chatmosphere before, it’s a IRC client for your BlackBerry with a pretty nice user interface giving you access to over 200,000 chatrooms over a wide variety of servers. The premium version is still available for those who would like to purchase for only $3.99

Excuse me for claiming this as a “funny app” since some of you may take 2012 as being the end of time, but I found it very comical that an application has been brought forward which counted down to the day where the whole world is coming to an end (according to those theories). Since I’m not really into all the theories, nor have I indulged in it at all, here’s the stock description of the app which should put it best:
Countdown to the end of time on December 21, 2012 down to the MILLISECOND!
On December 21, 2012, the 12th Baktun will come to an end, and the Mayan Long Count calendar will read 13.0.0.0.0.
It is a matter of dispute amongst scholars whether or not there are 13 or 20 baktuns in a piktun, the sixth unit, but regardless, December 21, 2012 marks a special day for Mayans as the beginning of a new Great Cycle.
Use Doomsday 2012- to countdown to the end of time on December 21, 2012 down to the MILLISECOND!
For more details start in just minutes by downloading Doomsday 2012- to your BlackBerry.
Supports the newest devices like Torch, Bold 2, Storm 2 and 9100.
The application is usually $1.99 but is on sale for 99 cents through February 28th. Hit the link below to check it out.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a TeleNav update on my BlackBerry, but after installed 6.0.0.448 on my AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9800, I noticed an update was available with the following “enhancements” included:
- Lane guidance
- Speed limit display
- Speed camera alerts
- Voice commands (‘drive home’, ‘movies’, ‘commute traffic’, etc)
Now my TeleNav is branded “AT&T Navigator” but is TeleNav underneath it all, so I’m not sure if this update is for all TeleNav users or just AT&T customers. You all should get a notification for a new update, but if not you can do so over the air from TeleNav.

Back at DEVCON 2010, some reps from RIM told us about future plans of providing OS builds beyond what the carrier puts out officially. Now it looks like BlackBerry 6 OS hit the streets in BlackBerry Beta Zone, but only for T-Mobile at the moment for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Bold 9780, and Curve 3G 9300. At the moment, there is no official for either the Bold 9700 or Curve 3G 9300, so this is your chance to test it out on your device if you haven’t already. As for the BlackBerry Bold 9780, you’ll be able to try out future builds of OS 6.0 since it already comes with a version preloaded right out of the box. Hit the jump to read the official notice from RIM or head over to Beta Zone to check it out and get your OS 6 on!

So as you know, RIM has released Beta 2 of BlackBerry Theme Studio 6 which includes theme building for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, 9780, and 9650 running BlackBerry 6 OS. It was a bit unfortunate that we didn’t have this from the beginning but it’s now supported and theme builders have put in work to ensure their themes work on the three new supported devices. Here’s a list of some popular theme builders you can check out to see what themes are now available for your device.

FontCollection for BlackBerry has once again updated, this time a small jump to version 2.1 but has some nice additions. Here’s the full change log:
- Now you can see all pre-installed fonts in your BlackBerry in FontCollection.
- Use ‘Filter…’ menu item to filter fonts by type: serif, sans serif, monospaced, script and many others.
- Three modes of view: compact, normal and full mode.
- New 16 Serif fonts
FontCollection has made its way in the top ten most popular applications at the PocketBerry Store quite rapidly. I personally have the application installed since I favor switching up my BlackBerry fonts now and then, other than the fonts that RIM provides by default. As far as price goes, it’s a fair 99 cents to dish out. Click the link below to check out screenshots, read more info on the app, or to purchase it.
