A new rumor is now floating around from the folks over at N4BB talking about a BlackBerry Monaco, which is expected to be the BlackBerry Storm 3 replacement.  The Monaco is expected to rock a 3.7 inch touchscreen, trackpad, 512MB of memory, BlackBerry 6 OS (most likely 6.1),  and a “possible” 1GHz processor.  RIM is already up to 800MHz at the moment with the leaked BlackBerry Apollo we saw today, so maybe 200 more megahertz is what we’ll be getting next.

We’re not the only ones who have this, but from what I understood, it’s a private beta at the moment.  There’s been leaks of videos and pictures in the past before but we’ve held it in until now.  I’ve been using the inPulse smartwatch for a few months now as it’s still in beta at the moment.  We haven’t put together a post for you all yet on it as the software is consistently getting updated since it’s in beta.  But so far, the experience is great.  The inPulse smartwatch comes especially handy when your BlackBerry is on a charger, deep in your pocket, or if you’re driving around.  I think the best use I’ve gotten out of it is using it when a BlackBerry on the table isn’t appropriate.  I just look at my watch and browse through messages instead, where that’s not much more respectful anyway. In the end of the day it’s a great companion to the BlackBerry and looks cosmetically nice too.

Cass took a few photos of my watch, where you’ll get a closer look at it with small tast of what its software is like.  Keep in mind this is all beta and is consistently being updated for the better.  Hit the jump for more pictures.

Here’s a video I spotted on the BlackBerry YouTube channel, which seems to be have used for DEVCON Asia 2011.  It’s all about BlackBerry in Indonesia and how people use their devices.  BlackBerry Messenger seems to be everyone’s main favorite in the BlackBerry, but that’s everywhere not just Indonesia.

At DEVCON Asia 2011, RIM officially announced BlackBerry 6.1 Application Platform.  So we know that BlackBerry 6 OS is going to be around for a while without all the QNX stuff we’ve been excited for.  We had two devices leaked today, one the Dakota and the other Apollo which have been rumored to rock OS 6.1.  In any case, for developers, 6.1 Application Platform tools include:

  • Magnetometer / Digital compass APIs
  • Open GL-ES 2.0
  • Window API – overlay native app surfaces
  • Event-based geo-fencing location APIs
  • Enhancement to Barcode API’s for additional formats and custom decoding
  • Much More

So the biggest news here I believe is Open GL-ES 2.0 which will give developers a lot more to work with.  I expect we’ll be seeing BlackBerry 6.1 launch by the BlackBerry World event, hopefully.  Sooner would be better of course!

The other leaked image of the day goes out to the BlackBerry Apollo which is the next generation Curve.  Something cool I noticed in the specs is that it rocks a 800MHz processor rather than a 624.  We’re still not up to speed where we want to be but RIM is taking baby steps in the right direction here.  Below are the full specs:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS/HSPA 7.2Mbps
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n
  • GPS
  • NFC
  • 512MB of eMMC, 512MB of RAM
  • 5-megapixel camera with flash
  • HVGA 480 x 360 display
  • 1050 mAh battery
  • Tavor MG-1 800MHz CPU
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1
  • 11mm thin

So it ships out with BlackBerry OS 6.1 just as the Dakota does.  I wonder when we’ll be seeing official announcements on these.  Perhaps after a few more leaked images and videos :)

It’s been sooo long since we’ve had a BlackBerry device leak.  At last we get to see the BlackBerry Dakota.  It’s not the dual core processor BlackBerry we were all expecting, but according to what we see so far, the specs have been improved.  Below are the specs of the device:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS
  • 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, flash, and image stabilization
  • 4GB of built in storage, 768MB of RAM
  • 2.8-inch VGA 640×480 capacitive screen
  • WiFi b,g,n on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies
  • 3G mobile hotspot!
  • MicroUSB port
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Magnetometer
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • 10.5mm thin
  • Launches with BlackBerry OS 6.1

So what do you think? A full QWERTY BlackBerry with touchscreen on the top.  Not the same form factor as a Torch but of a Bold instead.  I love it.
