At CES 2011, QNX showed an awesome demonstration of how the BlackBerry PlayBook can act as a controller for the car. In this video, we see the PlayBook performing tasks such as temperature changing and other vehicle settings. This is all concept, but I think it’s pretty damn cool. The sky’s the limit on this one. Perhaps Viper will hop on the wagon with something like this with their SmartStart remote starter.

So today Verizon officially announced the iPhone available on their network with a launch date of February 10th. Customers who wanted the iPhone switched to AT&T just because it was carrier exclusive, and others held on to their current carrier in best hopes that it would launch for them too. So for those of you who currently have a BlackBerry on the Verizon network, will you switch to the iPhone now that it’s available? Drop us a line in the comments or tweet us.

I’m not so sure how many of you have an actual need of this, but it was interesting enough to share, especially since it’s a 99 cent application. Lock for Facebook password protects the native Facebook application on your BlackBerry. I guess it’s good for those who leave their phones on tables and such and are very sensitive on brown nosers peaking into your Facebook messages. For me personally I’d suggest password protecting the whole device, but you be the judge of that.

PatternLock is a really popular application for BlackBerry, and I have certainly seen variations of the application on other platforms such as Android. It has become a very popular way to lock and unlock your device as it does not require a password but more of your unique finger motion across a grid of points. As a Deal of the Day special you can grab it for only $1.49 as it’s usually $2.99 saving you 67% instantly.

Pretty cool. It looks like famous rap artist and actor Common breaks down a freestyle during CES 2011 at the BlackBerry booth making mentions of the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry Torch 9800. I haven’t seen any paparazzi shots of him using a BlackBerry. I wonder which Berry Common has if he does use one..?
Thanks for sending this in Ehab!

We know that Drake is a BlackBerry user and uses them to write his music on. What we didn’t know (and I’m sure some of you didn’t either) is that his freestyles that we hear such as this one could very well be “pre-styles.” In this video, we see him reading lyrics off a BlackBerry (I’m gonna say its a Bold 9000) and rapping from it. This was for HOT 97, a radio station in New York and everyone hearing it on the air would take it as a freestyle not knowing he’s got a database of rhymes in front of his face. Boo.
