It’s been a while since Tether has been up as a Deal of the Day special, but today it has come back once again for it.  Usually it’s $49.99, but you can grab a copy today only for $24.99 saving you 50% instantly.  For those who don’t kn0w by now (you obviously should), Tether is an application that allows you to use your BlackBerry’s internet connection on your PC computer or Mac without facing extra charges from your carrier.  So instead of paying month to month for tethering, grab this copy for 25 bucks and be worry-free.

Well RIM did promise to release BlackBerry Theme Studio 6 by the end of the month, since you know we’ve been on beta since DEVCON on that.  It was scheduled to happen any day now, but it’s been leaked before RIM could officially launch it.  There’s a few download mirrors below you can grab a copy at.  Enjoy theme builders!

It’s about time we get a BlackBerry Torch leak – it’s been so long hasn’t it? Finally us Torch users are caught up in OS versions when it comes to leaks.  This is OS 6.0.0.448 for the BlackBerry Torch 9800.  I’m hoping this version works a lot smoother and makes everything faster.  It is a leak so download and install at your own risk!

While looking through the leaked slides from our previous post on the 2011 Roadmap, there’s quite a few on BlackBerry 6.1 “Evolution” as they call it.  So here’s a quick list of some things we’re super excited to see:

  • HD video recording and Management/Playback
  • Rich Media support via HTML5
  • Voice enabled Universal Search
  • OpenGL H/W acceleration for gaming
  • WiFi Mobile Hotspot – allows to connect up to 5 devices
  • Better web browsing experience with embedded media support, etc.
  • Managing homescreen panes
  • Enhanced virtual keyboard (doesn’t sound promising yet, but hopefully is better)

This is honestly what I wish we saw in BlackBerry 6 when it first launched.  I think the biggest downer of OS 6.0 was the web browsing and how it was almost right, but not totally there.  Embedded media isn’t really supported and everything works much to slow with multiple tabs as the processor probably just can’t keep up.  Nevertheless, we’re happy to see RIM stepping up their game with OS 6.1 adding these great features.

The next leak goes out to the BlackBerry codename Montana, which is the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Dakota, which is going to be the BlackBerry Bold Touch – confused yet? It’s nice to see some roadmap for what’s ahead with RIM as far as CDMA goes, so we’re quite thrilled in seeing this as Verizon and Sprint customers aren’t really that happy with what’s being offered so far.  So here it is – the BlackBerry Montana and yes it looks a lot like the BlackBerry Dakota.  Here are the specs:

  • Dimensions: 155 x 66 x 10.5mm
  • Processor: Qualcomm 1.2GHz CPU
  • Radio: 800/1900 MHz EvDO Rev A with Receive Diversity (PCS Only); Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; Dual Band UMTS (HSPA 7.2/5.76) 900/2100MHz
  • Display: 2.8″ diagonol – VGA 640 x 480, resolution 287dpi
  • Camera: 5mp – Flash – Image Stabilization – HD Recording (720p)
  • Navigation: Capacitive Touch, Optical Trackpad
  • Keypad: Wide QWERTY – Physical Send, End, Escape, Menu, Right Side Convenience Key, Volume Control
  • Memory: 8GB – 768MB RAM – up to 32GB MicroSd Card
  • WiFi: 2.4 GHZ b/g/n – 5GHz a/n – Mobile Hotspot

Better known as the BlackBerry codename “Malibu,” it will most likely launch with the name BlackBerry Curve Touch according to CrackBerry who received the leaked image above along with specs.  It’s going to be CDMA, so it’s definitely a good answer for those waiting for the the BlackBerry Storm 3.  Here are the specs:

  • Processor: Qualcomm MSM 8655 800MHz CPU
  • Radio: CDMA – EvDo Rev A
  • Display: 3.25″ 480×360 HVGA
  • Navigation: Trackpad & Nav Keys
  • Keypad: Virtual QWERTY
  • Camera: 5 MP (with HD Video recording)
  • Memory: 1GB Flash + 512MB RAM, Hot Swap MicroSD slot
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • GPS: Autonomous & A-GPS
  • Connectivity: NFC, Micro USB, Bluetooth 2.1
  • Sensors: Ambient Light Sensor, accelerometer

The bad news? It’s going to be releasing late 2011, early 2012.  On the brighter side, I can imagine that the Curve Touch could hit GSM also, so maybe that’s in the making behind the scenes as well.  It’s not sporting the highest specs here versus what we’ve seen as far as higher resolutions go for 2011′s roadmap of BlackBerrys, but it calls for an interesting keyboard-less entry level Curve with touchscreen capability and trackpad.

I was searching through BlackBerry App World and came across an app called Daily Hair Cast by Studio One Networks. The concept of the app seemed really great. You enter your hair type: straight, wavy, curly; as well as your zip code and it will give you a hair tip based off your weather. So on a rainy day, I assume it won’t command women to straighten their hair?  I think it’s an awesome idea especially for the ladies, or anyone who really cares about their hair.

After I downloaded the app I selected “my hair type” (which actually is all 3) and entered my zip code and I got nothing. It didn’t seem to work for me. So if anyone wants to give it a try and let me know if they get it to work. The application is a great idea, if it works!  Hair Cast is free to download from the App World, click the link below to get redirected for the download.
