According to an interview with Jeff McDowell, RIM’s senior vice-president for business and platform marketing, the BlackBerry PlayBook is said to have 4,000 third party applications available for download at the launch date which is expected to be March.

Many have been fussing saying that the PlayBook could indeed be better than an iPad or Android tablet, but it’s all in accordance with application quality and quantity as well.  I’m hoping there’s a lot of good applications out there with great user interfaces, brilliant and rich with color and graphics.

Thanks Ehab for sending this in!

Given that I’m a 6.0 user, I didn’t notice or hear any buzz about OS 5.0 users experiencing GPS issues on the latest update of Poynt.  In any case, Poynt has addressed this issue in a small new update which is available at App World.  Click the link below to download Poynt or head over to My World in App World to download the latest update.

We put up OS 6.0.0.431 for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 before, but there was some confusion as to whether or not it was a full leak or a hybrid since there was no signature.  This one is the same version, but RIM signed, so you can feel a bit more secure popping this bad boy into your Bold 9650.

A lot of great things have been happening lately with DEVCON Asia, details on OS 6.1, and a rumor of a new BBM hitting the streets soon.  RIM is prepping up a lot of goodies this year including new devices with higher specs and hopefully one day QNX OS on mobiles.  Their ace in the hole is BlackBerry Messenger. Now being BlackBerry users, we all should be pretty familiar with it. BBM is loved by BBM users, and often tried copied but never duplicated by other platforms and developers. RIM is looking to take BBM to another level with BBM 6.  Continue reading to check out more features.

The folks over at CB got a nice screenshot of an option in OS 6.1.  Something that has been frustrating in OS 6.0 is the panes you can switch between that include All, Frequent, Media, Downloads, and Favorites.  My issue at times is that I scroll back and forth accidentally and then open applications I don’t want.  In OS 6.1, you can manage what screens you’d like to have.  For me, I’m just going to keep All and see how that goes :) How about you?

This application is quite simple.  It’ll generate excuses, ones you can give your boss at work more or so.  Based on the screenshots of the application, I wouldn’t take any of them serious enough to take to a superior at work.  Excuse Generator is free to download for BlackBerry.  Click the link below to download it over the air.

I’m not sure what’s in this version of Facebook for BlackBerry, but it did get ripped from yesterday’s 6.0.0.448 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Also, keep in mind that it does work with all 6.0 devices, as I tried it on my Torch and Style and it works a charm.  I don’t see any differences in this build but if any of you do, drop us a line!

The next leak surprisingly goes out to the BlackBerry Bold 9780, which already comes stock with BlackBerry 6 right out of the box.  Also, this leak is the same exact version that was previously posted for the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  So if you’ve got a 9780, check out OS 6.0.0.448 to have the latest leak.

Here’s the latest and greatest for the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  This is OS 6.0.0.448, and yes it is a leak as mentioned above.  We’ve seen .380 go official with carriers early this month, but there’s still a lot of complains on that version.  Hopefully we’ll be seeing some good stuff here.  Click the links below for various download mirrors.  Enjoy and let us know how this version works for you.

The rumors just keep surfacing.  Last week we did a post on AT&T pulling the BlackBerry Bold 9700 from their site assuming that the Bold 9780 would be coming soon.  Sources are saying that stores are selling what they have of the Bold 9700, with no plan of restocking.  We’ve already seen an AT&T branded Bold 9780 through leaked videos and they had the AT&T splash screen on boot and everything.  Now a new rumor from Fudzilla suggests that AT&T has put the Bold 9700 on hold because the BlackBerry Dakota is going to be launching soon.
