App that detects potholes currently in development

The city of Boston has announced development of an application which detects potholes without the driver having to mark spots on the map.  As soon as I heard about it, I assumed it would be some geotagging application where users could mark on the map where they have encountered potholes.  The application will require an accelerometer and GPS.  So far Android and iOS support has been confirmed but other mobiles will be supported as well.  So current BlackBerry devices which already have accelerometers and GPS, and future devices having those features equipped, it could come to us too.

    This device would really be helpful, especially for those big ones which just do not have physical markers around them. I hope going mobile on this one does not mean potholes should be tolerated, though. There should be a follow-through app to report these pothole maps.
