RIM has announced free code signing keys for the BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphones today.  In the BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK, you’ll be able to sign the apps you build (with the latest version).  You can download the latest version here to get the ball rolling.

To start signing applications, make sure you register with the RIM Signing authority by filling out their web form.  It is free but RIM holds $1 on a credit card to verify it is valid.  You get your buck back after your credit card company processes the transaction.  Not so sure what that’s all about but that’s what’s required.   You can read more about it at the BlackBerry Developer’s Blog.

Can I have my money back for the signing keys I bought? Like seriously, it’s nice RIM is playing favorites to new developers (like playbook developers) – but where is the love for the Developers who have been with RIM since the start? Where is our PlayBooks? Where’s my refund for the Signing key? I’m about to jump ship and get a WinPhone7. No loyalty from RIM means no loyalty from me.
