I’ve never heard of Gold Scarab before, but it’s a nice puzzle game to play on BlackBerry.  I do prefer Bubble Birds personally, but this isn’t really the same style to compare it too.  The game reminds me a bit of Pipes if any of you have played it before, as it probably has 21 different names to it.  I guess you’ll have to try it yourselves.  Features include:

  • 100 campaign levels
  • 6 unlimited quick play modes
  • High scores
  • 4 zoom levels for every screen size
  • Auto saves current game when you exit
  • How to play guide
  • Supports touch and non-touch devices
  • Free updates

Gold Scarab is 99 cents to buy, making a really low premium for mobile games if you want to compare.  Again, it’s worth trying for sure, but there are better games at the PocketBerry Store if you dig for them.

The guys over at MMMOOO have launched a new theme called Astronaut.  They suggest it’s a great theme for space enthusiasts, and I couldn’t disagree.  The home screen layout is really clean, giving you four icons along with a fifth that looks like it’s dedicated to profiles, and located inside the flag which the astronaut holds in the picture.  Time and date remain to be centered on the upper side of the screen with the battery meter on the upper left hand corner, and signal bar on the upper right.

Astronaut goes for $4.99 in our app store for those who would like to purchase.  It supports a ton of BlackBerry models, so check the list and make sure you’re supported before purchasing.

We’ve heard rants and seen a few rumors about RIM’s soon to be released BlackBerry PlayBook supporting Android applications.  The folks over at ShopSavvy are saying that there has been three instances already of a BlackBerry smartphone handling their Android application allegedly.  Here’s their log:

  • BlackBerry 8300 ran ShopSavvy on January 31, 2011
  • BlackBerry 8600 ran ShopSavvy on January 17 and 24, 2011
  • BlackBerry 8520 ran ShopSavvy on February 7, 2011

These stats come from Waterloo, Ontario in Canada…which yes, is where RIM is based out of.  The device model numbers are a bit strange though.  We have the BlackBerry 8600, which was the Curve 3G at one point, but is now the 9300 series.  Then we see the 8300 which is the FIRST generation Curve, which barely has any juice.  Then there’s the 8520, which has been discontinued and replaced with the Curve 3G 9300.  All three of these devices appear to be from the Curve family, but why? It doesn’t make any sense now, but I hope the picture’s clearer soon enough.

You can see the analytics charts over at ShopSavvy.

So BlackBerry Internet Service 4.0 seems to be the next step for RIM.  N4BB got some leaked documentation showing some ins and outs on the new update.  Big factors include integration with BlackBerry ID, Google Calendar improvements, automatic logins, and more.  Hit the jump for the full leaked document on BIS 4.0.

I must say this is a huge UI change.  Throughout all the Facebook for BlackBerry updates, we get bits and pieces of new features, and never anything as revamped as this.  The folks over at N4BB got some leaked screenshots of Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 so here they are.  They’re a bit tiny but you can see there’s a huge difference here, and it’s very touchscreen friendly (as we assume this screenshot came from a Torch).  Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 is expected to bring Facebook Chat finally, along with the new user interface you can see for yourself, and more.  Stay tuned as we’re hoping the update rolls out soon.

Celebrity Call is another one of those just for fun applications used to trick your friends.  It’s not the newest and greatest trick in the hat but it’s quite comical.  You open up the application, set a name and avatar for the caller, set a time, and you’re all set.  However, some jokes carry a price tag.  As a special promotion you can grab it it for only $1.99, where the normal price is $3.99.  So if you want to spoof your friends in a corny way, I think Celebrity Call’s a great approach.

We’ve seen the Netflix Queue Manager for the BlackBerry PlayBook, but that surely does not include a player.  As some of yo umay or may not know, Netflix Instant Stream runs off of Microsoft Silverlight, and not Adobe Flash.  When the BlackBerry PlayBook was announced, I thought to myself “cool, a full browser so I could do my Netflix Instant Stream just by going to the site.”  It doesn’t look like that’s happening though.  In our title we took the general question of what the BlackBerry PlayBook is going to do when it comes to sites that require Silverlight.  I’m specifically targeting Netflix as that’s where it would affect me.

Will there be applications in the making or ways around this at all? If any of you developers out there have more insight on the matter, drop us a line and tell us what you think.
