This is a bit on the enterprise side of things, but great news for RIM and small to medium business users. Today RIM officially releases MDaemon Messaging Server BlackBerry Edition. What makes it a “BlackBerry Edition” is the fact that you can have all of your MDaemon services all in one with the ability to have wireless BlackBerry synchronization, IT policy management, and security.
The best part about it is how easy it’s installed. It takes about thirty minutes to install in one installation wizard for both the server and BlackBerry smartphones. As far as support goes, MDaemon Messaging Server BlackBerry Edition covers Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP. So platforms supported are wide compatible as there are many small businesses out there still on XP or up to date with Windows 7. Hit the jump for more features and how to sign up.

I’m not a user of DailyHoroscope for BlackBerry at all, but apparently it makes its way high up in popular applications in BlackBerry App World. Vinny let us know that it has updated today after a while to version 2.0.74, bringing nothing over the ordinary but contains bug fixes and visual improvements. DailyHoroscope is free to download from App World.

RIM has teased us lightly on BlackBerry Protect over the last few months, and the one thing we haven’t heard about it is when it will launch finally. The folks over at BerryReview received a tip about an internal email at RIM stating that BlackBerry Protect for beta users are going offline for the next two weeks in deleting all current beta users’ data. Also they confirm that the service will be up and running right after that. So two weeks to go and we are excited to finally see all the attributes of BlackBerry Protect.

We just got the word from BerryBlow that they have updated their popular game Labyrinth for BlackBerry to version 2.2. All we get in the release notes is that game play has been improved as well as levels. I’m not sure if there are any new levels here but from the look of it so far, it seems that the game just works a lot smoother with the proximity sensor and is “easier” to play in the sense that it’s more realistic (if that makes any sense). You can download the update over the air, or check out the lite version. Otherwise click the link below to purchase or to check out more screenshots.

Market Force Information conducted a study on cell phone users along with a bunch of other info including how many use smartphones, where their application importance is, and a bunch of other cool facts. Here’s a few good ones I thought were worth bringing up.
- Nearly 51% already own a smartphone and 33% plan to purchase one in the next six months
- Only 9% said they were inclined to switch wireless providers – and nearly all of those would switch to Verizon or AT&T
- The most sought-after apps, in order, are: Internet, email, navigation, games
- Wireless retail store sales associates influence smartphone purchase decisions as much as family, friends and colleagues
- Most will buy their smartphones from a retail store, while merely 13% will buy theirs online
Now to tie in some BlackBerry stats, the firm finds that consumers are more likely to get an Android over an iPhone with the ratio being 34% vs 21%. BlackBerry comes in third with 12%, while 25% remain undecided. There’s a lot of interesting information further after the jump.

Elecite has once again launched another theme, cosmetically nice to the eyes and very fashionable. Elecite is famous for changing your whole user interface of your BlackBerry with graphics, new icons, and visualizations we really don’t see from any other theme builders. They have just launched a new theme called Shift which gives you three home screen pages and three panels for applications. Features include:
- Practical design
- Clean, simple and professional
- 3 page design
- 12 customizable icon dock
- 15-16 locked quick access icons
- Polished dash board interface
- Fast and snappy
Elecite themes are a bit pricey, but then again they are higher end themes and as you can see, a lot more work is put into them than the average – so Shi

It’s going to be an exciting time as RIM introduced BlackBerry World to replace WES and this is the first year they’re doing it. Just as a quick recap, BlackBerry World focuses on everything rather than just enterprise. We got the word this morning that the session catalog is now available. If you’re planning on attending the event, check out what’s in store as far as events and courses go.

We were hinted about BlackBerry Balance a while ago, and were wondering how exactly it would work with removing personal and corporate data off the device separately. For those who don’t remember, Balance is a service which allows BlackBerry admins to separate corporate data from personal data on the BlackBerry. So let’s say you have a BlackBerry and use it for both work and personal. Your administrator needs to wipe all your corporate email and data, but you don’t want to lose your personal messages and emails. BlackBerry Balance allows the administrator to specifically only wipe corporate portion, without having to worry about losing all your personal stuff on the device.
Ronen from BerryReview spotted some BlackBerry Balance appearance in BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.3 documentation which exemplifies how corporate data can be deleted on its own. A lot of interesting policy rules and more snippets of documentation after the jump.

So half of everyone’s problems are gone now. They’ll all be gone once BBM 6 hits official. Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1.0.13 leaked out a few days ago, and some didn’t require keycodes while others did. Now the next version 1.1.0.16 is available in BlackBerry Beta Zone, so if you’d like a copy, you can legitimately have it with the keycode you’ve been drooling for. Features in this update include:
- @mention Push Notifications – Users are now alerted with push notifications to the ribbon when they have @mentions, helping users quickly reply to @mentions
- Direct Messages – Renamed “Messages,” direct messages are now threaded in the style of BBM conversations. Related messages are grouped together, making the direct message area less cluttered
- #Topic Autocomplete – When users include a hashtag in their tweet, a dropdown list of key words will be presented based on previously used #topics
- Social Feeds Integration – Deeper integration with Social Feeds allows users to perform Twitter actions right from Social Feeds, without launching the app
- Retweet Updates – Retweets now appear in the Home timeline with a tag of “retweeted by you,” quickly alerting users that a retweet has been sent
- New Gesture Support – BlackBerry smartphone users with a touch screen device can now refresh page content by simply dragging a finger down the device screen and releasing it
- Additional language support – New languages supported include Polish and Czech
I guess the previous 1.1.0.13 wasn’t a go for RIM to release, so here’s a refined version they felt was more stable.

During the weekend we got the leaked BBM 6 and Facebook 1.9.1.5 for BlackBerry, but the problem was they all required keycodes. The only way at the time to be able to use the application was if you had a BBM keycode from the previous beta in Beta Zone. As for Facebook, we had some users able to use the app without the keycode and others that I guess used old Facebook keycodes? Either way, it was really frustrating for many, and we saw it all in the comments. So the guys over at BBH-Plus have found a workaround the keycodes for those in dying need to have BBM 6 and the leaked Facebook application. It’s not such a short process but for those who want to, feel free to do so.
