It’s been a while since we heard about the Allerta inPulse BlackBerry watch, and now it’s finally officially available. We’ve been beta testing it for months, getting new software updates for it every week and it’s been so exciting. The latest news on the inPulse is that Allerta has made it open source to provide developers with tools to build applications for it. So what we see on their site now are examples of iTunes media controllers, analog watch and even a PowerPoint presentation controller. Now there will be a lot more to do with the watch, and why not throw a game in too?
It comes in metallic silver and black anodized, where I prefer the black just because it looks sexy. The silver goes for $149.99, while the black carries a price tag of $199.99.

Some big news this week at Mobile World Congress 2011 was RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie announcing NFC chips in most BlackBerry smartphones coming out this year. In this video we see RIM’s Andrew Bocking explain the birds and bees in NFC and how it will be useful in BlackBerry.

Something that’s been messing with my head a bit with the whole BlackBerry PlayBook and having it synced with your BlackBerry is the BlackBerry ID. The way it works now, if you switch from BlackBerry to BlackBerry, you’ll keep getting prompted to switch device PINs. Ronen from BerryReview spots that the PlayBook does have a PIN and Vendor ID surprisingly which made me question how BlackBerry App World would work exactly. When downloading an application the PlayBook, will we be prompted to switch PINs in App World if we recently downloaded an app on our BlackBerry smartphone just before? If the tablet really does have a PIN, I totally see that being a possibility, but hopefully RIM will work around that so we’re not solicited by those annoying pop-ups.

So we’ve seen the Aura Weather and Scrapbook applications by The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Both were really fascinating to see, and now we see some more action with even cooler applications. Simon from IntoMobile got a nice hands on with some 3D action with the PlayBook connected via HDMI to a 3D television. My favorite part is the Rubik’s Cube in 3D. Although you can’t see things pop out of your screen in this video, you’ll get a good idea of the great things to expect from TAT in the BlackBerry PlayBook.

I recently received the Motorola Commander Bluetooth Headset from Motorola, and noticed that it supported MotoSpeak. I remembered hearing about MotoSpeak not too long ago so I downloaded the free app in BlackBerry App World. When the headset is connected to the device it reads text messages to you. Caller ID will be read to you and it dictates your reply, as well as allows you to answer or reject calls without touching the phone or headset. One great feature is that it understands acronyms. Someone sent me a text and it says “LOL” and Motospeak said “Laughing out loud.” This is definitely a smart app. And great for consumers using any of the Motorola headsets that support Motospeak such as the Motorola Commander or Motorola H17txt. If you don’t have a supporting headset or aren’t running BlackBerry OS 4.5 or higher it looks like the app won’t work for you. If you do have a supporting headset and are always on the go and a big multitasker and can’t always stop to reply back to someone then this is the perfect app for you. Listen to text as wel as performing dictations on the go.

During last night’s T-Mobile BlackBerry event for employees, the BlackBerry PlayBook took on the spotlight for the most part, aside from the slide show on the BlackBerry Storm 3 “Monza.” As we let you know before, T-Mobile will only be offering the WiFi version. Also it looks like they’ll only be selling it to business customers only. It doesn’t hurt anyone obviously though – just grab the PlayBook at any of the other retail locations with no problems at all. I can understand T-Mobile wanting to push the PlayBook for businesses, but I don’t see any reason why they’d limit it to just them, especially when there’s going to be an open market everywhere else for the tablet. We’re going to take this one as just a rumor for now, but I think it’s a silly decision if it’s true.

Here’s a fun video from an event at Mobile World Congress 2011 called App Circus. In App Circus, developers have the opportunity to present Super App concepts to RIM judges and get feedback. I see it as a BlackBerry version of American Idol. So check it out and see what developers are looking to bring to BlackBerry.

Not a big deal to us anymore since carriers all over have put out official OS 6.0 updates for both the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, but there’s still a whole crowd who waits for the official to update. Jon got the word from a T-Mobile BlackBerry representative which claimed that T-Mobile is working on bringing an official 6.0 release for both devices within the next 30 days. All I have to say is that it’s about time. Let’s hope they stick to it, and do launch it in that timely fashion.

Last night we received a few tips about BlackBerry Messenger v5.0.2.11 hitting the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Ronen over at BerryReview confirmed some bug fixes below listed in Beta Zone.
- If you are running BlackBerry® 6.0, a cursor might not have appeared when you scrolled through previous messages in a chat.
- If you turned on content protection, when you received a new message, you might have seen a “Content protection is enabled” message.
- If a person invites you to become a contact during a multi-person chat with you, and if you accepted the request, the contact might not have appeared on your contact list.
So there’s not much of any changes in this build, as many figured we’d see some BBM 6 features here, but doesn’t look like it. I’m ready for that upgrade already, but it looks like it’ll be rolled out with OS 6.1.
For those of you that want to try this one out, head over to Beta Zone to download.
