It’s nice to see that RIM is making moves in the right direction.  Another 2011 roadmap has leaked out, and this one’s quite exciting.  As you can see in the diagram above, we see BIS 4.1 coming at the end of the summer in August and then later OS 7 rolling out in November.

Also we see BlackBerry Protect which launched in open beta today.  There will be two other updates coming – a 1.1 for OS 6.1 and a 1.2 general beta which are both due by May.

Other exciting apps include Facebook 2.0 which should roll out by May according to the roadmap.  I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it coming along during BlackBerry World.  There’s a few other app dates you can see for yourself above including Twitter, Social Feeds, and BlackBerry News.

Goodbye Viigo.  We’ve missed you, and it was nice while it lasted.  RIM acquired Viigo and things were quiet for a while.  Later on, RIM launched BlackBerry News which was to replace Viigo, allowing you to import all your RSS subscriptions from your Viigo account.  Overall the application didn’t fly so well as it did not offer as much as Viigo did.  RIM is killing off Viigo officially in August, around the same time we should see BIS 4.1.

Now for some real excitement, App World for PlayBook comes up in March.  The latest rumor from RIM suggests that the BlackBerry PlayBook is launching in March and in Europe starting next month.  That rumor goes hand in hand with this leaked roadmap which shows App World for PlayBook due now.
