The 2011 leaked roadmap for BlackBerry does infact show that BlackBerry OS 6.1 is due by May.  In yesterday’s RIM Q4 fiscal 2011 earnings call mentioned BlackBerry OS 6.1 being a major upgrade and that it will be officially rolling out this spring.  So we got a glimpse of it in the roadmap, and now the affirmative directly from RIM.

I’m hoping to see OS 6.1 perform really well on existing BlackBerry devices such as the BlackBerry Torch and Bold 9780.  The Torch was a huge disappointment with some of the lags, which mostly was blamed on the lack of a decent speed processor.  I’m sure RIM has taken that in consideration and made OS 6.1 to mesh well with the low end hardware we’re currently sporting.
