According to a tip over at MacRumors, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie showed off a plan of bringing BlackBerry Messenger and “other services” to the Apple iPhone on April 26th, and it will be available in App Store.  This occurred at a social media conference up in Toronto where RIM made an appearance.  An update for it will be available by summer that takes advantage of a new notification system, which is assumed to be in iOS 5.

Earlier this month, we got the rumor that BBM was coming to both iPhone and Android devices.  There wasn’t much info around there, but hearing that RIM’s co-CEO came forward with the info makes it more realistic, assuming the rumor is true of course.  Android was rumored to get BBM first, but now we have a date announced through this rumor for the iPhone.  Perhaps it’ll be a matter of time until we hear it announced for Android OS.

I’m wondering what other services RIM is planning to offer for the iPhone.  It sounds like it’ll be BlackBerry Enterprise Server features but again we have nothing so far.

I don’t know how I feel about BlackBerry Messenger going to the iPhone honestly.  I strongly believe many folks will leave BlackBerry smartphones for the iPhone, as BBM tends to be the main reason folks have a BlackBerry to begin with.  How do you feel about the BBM on iPhone? Will you switch devices?
