The new version of Facebook for BlackBerry blew a lot of minds since it launched in Beta Zone yesterday. Since day one of version 1, we always saw the same user interface, a lot of us complained about it, and really weren’t in favor of it, but had no choice at that point to go to any other application. Facebook v2.0 brought a brand spankin’ new user interface, Facebook Chat at last, and much more. What are your favorite features in the new app? Drop us a line in the comments or tweet us!

That’s a pretty cool job title. Imagine being the one in charge of creating the name Bold 9000 or Torch 9800. It looks like RIM is looking to recruit a “Name and Numbering Manager” to be in charge of making names and model numbers for future BlackBerry devices. Here’s the job description:
- Help generate and facilitate the naming of new BlackBerry product and services
- Develop processes that streamline requests and the collection of information
- Help educate internal stakeholders on naming best practices to advocate cross team naming collaboration
- Successful candidate has the ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and teams such as Creative Excellence, Legal, Brand Strategy, Competitive Intelligence, Consumer Insights and Product Management in the determination of names
- Successful candidate will initially work within an established process but, will also be able to identify ways to make the naming process more pragmatic and streamlined – including the introduction of new processes and routines

OtterBox let us know a few days ago about their famous casing coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook. It’s no surprise as we’ve seen them cater well to BlackBerry smartphones, and they have entered the tablet market with the Apple iPad as well. For now, we see the Defender series coming soon to the PlayBook, but we’ll be expecting to see a Commuter series as well in the near future.
The Defender is top of the line when it comes to OtterBox cases. It carries the most protection with its three layer system and the heavy duty hard shell that goes on the very top.

Carriers want NFC data stored via sim card. RIM wants the NFC data stored securely on the device. It’s basically a battle over who is going to control all the revenue, applications, and mobile payments as a whole.
Carriers including Rogers, AT&T, and T-Mobile claim they would like to encrypt all the NFC credentials into the sim card itself, giving them control over all the mobile payments. The advantage for you here is that sim cards can be swapped obviously, so you can switch devices easily to keep your mobile payments going. The disadvantage? I guess if you lose your phone, anyone can swipe your sim card and use your NFC mobile payments themselves, that is of course if you haven’t called your carrier to deactivate the sim yet.

The BBM Flirt commercials were definitely unique, as we hadn’t seen anything like that come of BlackBerry commercials in the past before. Usually the commercials from RIM show professionals and how they rely on BBM, or just regular everyday people using it to talk to friends and such. These videos take you into more into BBM flirting and how it’s done. Hit the jump to watch the clip!

I’ve been testing out GetGlue for BlackBerry for almost a month now and have been really fond of the user interface and how well the app has been put together. Of course there were bugs to it and it did have it slow moments. Today we got the word that GetGlue is now officially available for everyone to download with a better build. I’m going to give it a shot now, and I’m hoping a lot of bug issues have been addressed. It’s free to download – click the link below to grab a copy from App World

So Facebook v2.0 for BlackBerry ended up launching sooner than we expected. I personally thought we’d see it come somewhere along with OS 6.1, but it’s already in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. As a quick recap, Facebook v2.0 gives an awesome new user interface, and FINALLY includes Facebook Chat!!

Telus just launched OS 6.0.0.448 for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. This .448 seems to be popular among other carriers who have also decided to go along with it. In my opinion, I’m not very fond of the Torch .448 and definitely experienced worse battery life than my previous .246 official from AT&T. Of course at the time I tried it, it was a leak, but you’re all welcome to try these out on your devices. Once again this is the official OS 6.0.0.448 for the Torch 9800, brought to you by Telus!

Yes, it’s today’s Deal of the Day special as well, but we just got word it updated as well! ShortcutMe is definitely an app I forgot all about. Eddie let us know that it recently received an update to version 5.3 adding some nice new features. For those who don’t know about the app already, ShortcutMe lets you get to things faster and easier in your BlackBerry, of course with your own customization.
Example: You can set your side convenience key to double click to lock your device, triple click to clean memory, double click to turn your blackberry into a flash light.
If you’re a Torch or Storm user, you’ll be real happy to see that the developers have catered to touchscreen gestures.
