We’ve had a small glimpse of the PlayBook in portrait mode once before.  When we went to the BlackBerry PlayBook event in New York, we weren’t able to see the tablet go off in portrait mode as they were locked in landscape.  IntoMobile got a hands on video with the PlayBook at SXSW showing it in fully functional portrait mode here.  In addition to that, we see the Podcasts app and 7Digital Music Store demoed as well.

There’s been one too many leaks coming out of Staples, and the latest suggests an April 17th launch date for the retail store.  We already know training for the device there is occurring this month, and now finally it looks like a launch date is in place.  The flyer does say Ad Date: 4/17, and so it’s assumed the ad will go up that day along with the availability of tablet, unless it’s a “coming soon” ad or pre-order sign up of course.

Fandango for BlackBerry got a version 2.0 update earlier yesterday.  In this update we see a few new features.  For one thing, the user interface is a lot nicer as you can scroll back and forth between movies really smooth.  This helps a lot since before it wasn’t that easy to browse through recently released films and such.  Also, I noticed that you can now send a movie time right to your calendar or share to social networks feature as well.  Gotta love apps that communicate with your BlackBerry native apps.

Here’s a quick look at something we’ve been waiting to see – tethering and WiFi hotspoting with BlackBerry OS 6.1.  The folks over at N4BB spotted.  As expected, with the mobile hotspot feature, you’ll be able to have up to five devices connected. Pretty cool right?  So here’s a quick handfull of screenshots showing you what to expect.

According to a report over at PCWorld, and based on what we were told last week at the BlackBerry PlayBook event in New York, the BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to have its own video conferencing application, along the same lines of FaceTime.  It’ll be an app just for the PlayBook, which will allow for video chatting, but I’m hoping they launch a desktop application as well, even in open beta like FaceTime so we can chat with more people, rather than just tablet owners.  The application is expected to ship out with the launch of the PlayBook.
