According to a tip over at MacRumors, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie showed off a plan of bringing BlackBerry Messenger and “other services” to the Apple iPhone on April 26th, and it will be available in App Store. This occurred at a social media conference up in Toronto where RIM made an appearance. An update for it will be available by summer that takes advantage of a new notification system, which is assumed to be in iOS 5.

Last week we were told it was going to be the end of the Tether for BlackBerry sale, but I just noticed in our app store that it’s up again, and this time it says until when officially. Tether for BlackBerry is usually $49.99, but is only $24.99 today only, saving you 50% instantly. A quick recap on features:
- Internet Anywhere: You can use Tether anywhere you can make phone calls.
- Easy Setup: Download our software to your BlackBerry and another for your laptop… Then surf the web and email just like you would with any Internet connection.
- Fast Speeds: Download speeds that are impressive. Our users download at speeds up to 1,800 kbps.
- No Tethering Fees: Tether uses your phone’s data plan and we do not charge tethering fees. (refer to our Terms of Service) (Note that significant charges may apply for data usage if not on an unlimited data plan. Please check with your carrier.)
- All BlackBerrys: Tether is compatible with all BlackBerrys.
- All Carriers: Tether has been used by carriers all over the world. Some carriers do require APN settings, though. It appears our product does not work on the iDen Network.
- PC & Mac: Tether works on both PCs and Macs.

The BlackBerry Torch has made it all the way past a bunch of Android phones and the iPhone 4 in Smart Phone Madness. It has come down to the Palm Pre 3 and the BlackBerry Torch now. The Torch is clearly behind at the moment, but you never know what could happen. Click here to cast your votes in for the Smart Phone Madness.

I can definitely understand seeing BlackBerry PlayBook owners who don’t have BlackBerry smartphones to want native BBM on their PlayBook without the bridge. But for BlackBerry users – do you actually want a separate BBM account on your PlayBook? As of now it requires BlackBerry Bridge where you connect your BlackBerry smartphone with your PlayBook.

During the times of SXSW, I would of kept my mouth shut if I saw App World on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Being so curious of what it looks and feels like, I would have played with it silently. In this video we see App World spotted on the PlayBook opened up, then the tablet is taken away from the RIM exec who says he can’t show App World. Boo.

Foursquare for BlackBerry has updated once again, but we’re still not up to speed with those on iPhones and Androids with their 3.0 build that launched a few weeks ago. The last major update was v1.9.77 which added commenting features, new trophy display, and more. Continue reading for the full change log and download link.

Yesterday BGR posted up some screenshots of the next BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1. This is expected to roll out with OS 6.1 devices. There really isn’t much to see here other than a basic setup and about screen. I’m not so sure how much of a UI change to expect here but there should certainly be some features in it to cater for OS 6.1 devices. One more screenshot after the jump.

We haven’t seen enough commercials for the BlackBerry Bold 9780. As we had mentioned before, we saw more spotlight on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, which isn’t bad at all since it is RIM’s popular smartphone at the moment. This commercial shows off the BlackBerry Bold 9780 and how a horseman uses it. The horseman gets videos and clips from other horseman friends of their horses and he uses it to keep in touch. Some of these commercials really throw me off, but they’re good!

BlackBerry Messenger just got an official update to version 5.0.2.12. There is no change log here, but I’m hoping the app runs smoother over all. It is 3MB in size, so make sure you have good cellular reception (3G or WiFi) and that you do not need to use your BlackBerry for ten minutes (for the Torch that is). As usual, let us know about anything new you spot in this version.

The BlackBerry PlayBook should of honestly launched right out of the box with native email, calendar, and contacts support. With all the negative buzz about that, RIM decided to put that in their roadmap for a future release as the Verizon BlackBerry PlayBook webinar FAQ sheet confirms it. It says it word for word:
In a future software update for the BlackBerry PlayBook, we will also provide native e-mail, calendar, and contact apps for those customers who prefer to have these apps directly on the tablet.
