TuneIn Radio is apparently really popular among BlackBerry users. I finally gave it a try a few weeks ago, and am really happy with how well the application works. TuneIn Radio is good for listening to podcasts and live radio. The best part about it is it’s free. At the end of last week TuneIn Radio for BlackBerry updated to version 1.9. Added in this build is Universal Search support and over all improved “reliability” which I consider it to be bug fixes.

I’m not so sure how many of you out there are using the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but Telus has just released an OS update for it bringing it to OS 6.0.0.481. The Pearl 3G is a great device, counted among one of my favored but we’ve been spoiled way too long with larger screens to go backwards to the small display. Any way, you can grab the OS officially at Telus.

I gave LiveProfile Messenger a try, which launched officially on Friday. For those unaware, LiveProfile Messenger is the latest cross platform messenger which is doing its best to be BBM-like. Buggy. The app is really buggy. I like the user interface and found it interesting that they assigned PINs just like BBM to each user, but the app over all is just way too buggy. Notifications wouldn’t stop coming up when I had nothing to check, buddy list would have empty blocks, and you can’t exit out of the application!

CheckUrEyes is an application that tests your eyes out to see how your shortsightedness is. The app description says you can use this app instead of going to the doctor because “we are busy” but I don’t recommend you take this app that far into consideration where you neglect going to get your eyes checked.
The picture above pretty much sums up how the app works. I haven’t tried it but found that it was an interesting application approach. CheckUrEyes is 99 cents to buy as a promotional price where it’ll go back up to $1.49 later.

The lite edition of Mobiola xPlayer released back in February when the app updated to version 2.0. For those who missed that, the it’s still around now, and you can grab it at the PocketBerry Store. Mobiola xPlayer is a good media player application which plays all sorts of file formats. Some find it better than the native media player, but I only see xPlayer’s benefit over the BlackBerry native one in terms of the different file types it supports.

Last time around, RIM had nothing to say when I asked what the plan was with video chat on the BlackBerry PlayBook. All we really got is that they will have something out for us to video chat on. Now it has come to surface as a BBM Video icon has appeared in the latest BlackBerry PlayBook video for Rogers.
So the video chat isn’t exactly integrated in BBM, but instead it appears to have a separate icon specifically for BBM video chatting. Perhaps this could change where two can become one.

Who cares right? I know it’s not breaking news, but I was browsing late last night the featured applications in App World and noticed that quite a few apps have BlackBerry logo icons, rather than screenshots or icons for the app that it is. Plus I’m sure developers who are currently in the featured section now with that generic logo are pretty upset. Not so sure what the story with that is, but I found about thirteen different applications with that icon. Anyone have any ideas?

RIM announced officially that they have acquired tinyHippos, a company that based around mobile widget and web development. The acquisition is right up RIM’s alley with their plans in moving forward and becoming more involved with HTML and WebWorks.
So let’s see what the new company has to offer in future BlackBerry products. Maybe we’ll see some further PlayBook enhancements and great web apps.

Remember Texas Hold’em King LIVE? It’s the free poker game by Magmic where you get to play other live players free. It got a nice update yesterday to version 1.0.9, mainly adding Twitter integration. With Twitter connected to the game, you can tweet your achievements, and let other Twitter friends know about the game.
