Senators from Nevada, New York, New Jersey, and New Mexico have approached RIM in regards to DUI checkpoint application in App World saying that they give “drunk drivers a free tool to evade checkpoints, putting innocent families and children at risk.”  RIM has responded by agreeing to remove them from BlackBerry App World.  There’s no word if letters were also sent to Apple and Google to remove their apps (if any), but BlackBerry has been confirmed.

Tether let us know last night that today will be the last day their app stays up for sale.  Today is also the last day to win a BlackBerry PlayBook from Tether as well, so if you haven’t participated, make sure you do today.  Back to the sale, saving 50% on Tether brings the price down to only $24.99, as it normally is $49.99.  For those who don’t know what Tether is all about, it basically allows you to use your current BlackBerry internet connection on your PC or Mac without facing tethering charges from your carrier.

I like Addictive Tower Defense personally, but Fierce Towers is another good tower defense game for BlackBerry.  It’s on sale today for only $2.49, in our Deal of the Day section.  Stock description reads:

Control the field to stop the waves of attacking enemies in the first ever tower defense game for BlackBerry. Place upgradeable towers around the field as you try your best strategies to stop wave after wave of invading enemies.

Staples plans to open up select stores at 12AM midnight for the BlackBerry PlayBook launch on April 19th.  How big will the demand be for the tablet though? I certainly know I’m excited to get my hands on one and surely there are many others who are as well.  As far as the tablet market goes, there are still other competitors out there, which have already launched.

RIM has released a free Enterprise Activation application in App World for BlackBerry users who are currently on BIS and not BES.  This works with BES Express or MDaemon Messaging Server, BlackBerry Edition.  As you know, you have to put out some extra cash for BES plans with your carrier, so this is a nice loophole for those using Express or MDaemon.  So if you have a BlackBerry for both work and personal, using Enterprise Activation will get your device connected for work to sync email, calendar, and contacts, making it easier for the admin to manage.

Foursquare has another alpha release out once again.  This one’s version 1.9.82, but gets no change log.  Last time around, we had a nice update adding commenting features, new trophy case views, and more.  If you decide to download this version, drop us a line and let us know of any changes you see.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

UPDATE: We’re not exactly sure if this is an alpha release or not.  Our tipsters have claimed it is an alpha but we see that this version is available to download at foursquare.com/blackberry and foursquare.com/blackberry/alpha.  If any of you get more info let us know!

Tethering seems to be a pretty big deal for some when it comes to the BlackBerry PlayBook.  From the way it looks now, you’ll have to obtain a tethering plan through your carrier for this to work legitimately.  What I’m wonder is if we’ll see companies such as Tether create an application which allows you to tether your BlackBerry’s current data line to your PlayBook without facing extra charges from carriers.  They’re already doing that for tethering to PCs and Macs, I don’t see any reason the PlayBook should be excluded right?
