BlackBerry PlayBook warranty support is directly from RIM

This clarifies our concern last month when we ranted about how the BlackBerry PlayBook warranty was going to work exactly.  Lots of people looked at it as a no brainer, in which you could take the PlayBook back to the store you purchased it at.  Wrong! It looks like the PlayBook is going to have its warranty and repair support directly from RIM.  Other companies including Sony handle it the same way.  Any time you buy a Sony camera or any of their other products, it specifically says not to take it back to the store and to call the company directly for any issues.

So with the warranty, RIM will be giving out support for 90 days after PlayBook has been activated.  Support here includes questions on setups or how to do certain things on the tablet.  A number for the US and Canada is available to call for that.  Next up is the limited warranty and repair service.   The PlayBook gets a 12 month warranty after it has been activated.  You can also get an additional 2 year warranty when purchasing the BlackBerry Total Care Program.  There’s no pricing available for that yet, but I’m sure we’ll be offered it upon launch date.
