BlackBerry PlayBook Haiku Contest – 20 PlayBooks to giveaway!
by Otoniel Bruno
We got the word yesterday about RIM putting out the BlackBerry PlayBook Haiku Contest, where they’ll be giving out 20 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets. To enter to win, you’ll have to follow BlackBerry on Twitter for starters, but that’s not all.
Between April 11-15 and April 25-29, there will be contest invites put out. You’ll have to write out a Haiku in reference to BlackBerry, mentioning @BlackBerry in the tweet with the hashtag #PlayBookHaiku. Stressed out yet? Hit the jump to read all the rules and regulations of the contest and the Haiku you have to write out.
#PlayBookHaiku TWITTER CONTEST Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are binding and final, without right of appeal, on all matters relating to the Contest. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, state and local laws. Void where prohibited by law.
1. ELIGIBILITY
No purchase necessary. Contest is open to legal residents of Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec) and the United States, including the District of Columbia, who have reached the age of majority at the time of entry in the respective province, state or territory in which they reside, and who are registered Twitter users. Registration on Twitter is free and can be obtained by going to http://twitter.com and following the online instructions to open a free account.
2. HOW TO ENTER
To enter, visit http://twitter.com/blackberry and become a follower of @BlackBerry. Twice during the Contest Period, invitations will be posted on the @BlackBerry Twitter page inviting you to enter the Contest (each a “Contest Invitation”). There will be one Contest Invitation posted between April 11th and 15th and one Contest Invitation posted between April 25th and 29th, 2011. To enter, write a fun BlackBerry® related haiku poem and send a tweet to @BlackBerry from your Twitter account, including the hashtag “#PlayBookHaiku” in your message.
The haiku should consist of three lines of an original poem and each line should be separated by a space, period, comma or slash. The first line should be comprised of five (5) syllables, the second line should be comprised of seven (7) syllables and the third line should be comprised of five (5) syllables. The haiku must follow the format specified above in order to be considered eligible for entry in the Contest (“Eligible Haiku”).
Eligible Haiku submissions must meet the following content restrictions:
- must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement;
- must not contain brand names or trademarks other than those owned by Sponsor;
- must not contain material that is hateful, tortuous, defamatory, slanderous or libelous;
- must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;
- must not contain sexually explicit material or material that is obscene, indecent or inappropriate, as determined by Sponsor, or that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any state, province or territory where the haiku is created; and
- must not contain any unauthorized third party owned material, including, but not limited to, trademarks, logos, and the like.
Failure of any Eligible Haiku to comply with the above guidelines, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, may result in disqualification from the Contest.
There is a limit of ten (10) entries per person, per Twitter account for each Contest Invitation. Anyone found to be using multiple Twitter accounts to enter the Contest or found to be making multiple entries over the limit to a Contest Invitation will be deemed ineligible and all their entries will be void. In the event of a dispute, the authorized account holder of the Twitter account specified will be deemed to be the entrant. The authorized account holder of a Twitter account is the natural person who is assigned to the Twitter account by www.twitter.com. Each potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder associated with a submission.
Employees or contractors of Sponsor, its affiliated companies, advertising and promotional agencies and immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with any such employees or contractors, are not eligible to enter. Void where prohibited by law.
3. HOW TO WIN
Any entrant who posts a tweet with an Eligible Haiku in response to a Contest Invitation will be eligible to win (“Eligible Entry”). Each Eligible Entry will be judged by a panel of qualified Sponsor-selected judges who will evaluate each Eligible Entry to determine the top ten (10) Eligible Haikus for each Contest Invitation, based on the following judging criteria: (i) Creativity of the submission (1/3) and (ii) Relevance to the Contest (1/3) and (iii) Overall impression (1/3). The top ten (10) Eligible Haikus in each Contest Invitation, as determined by the judges, will be announced as the winners (each a “Winner”) in accordance with the procedure described below.
In the event of a tie, the tie breaker will be based upon the highest score in the first judging criterion, continuing thereafter to the next criterion, as needed, to break the tie. Judges’ and Sponsors’ decisions are final in all matters relating to the Contest without right of appeal.
If the potential Winner resides in Canada, he/she will be required to answer a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, which will be administered by Sponsor at a pre-arranged mutually convenient time, before being declared a winner. Potential Winners may be required to complete, sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability Release. If documents are not returned within three (3) business days of attempted notification, or if a potential winner is found to be ineligible or not in compliance with these Official Contest Rules, such Prize (as described below) will be forfeited and, at Sponsor’s discretion, awarded to an alternate entrant.
