Browsing through App World on my PlayBook over the weekend I came across a game called Splatter Shot. What caught my attention about splatter shot was the fact that it looked like the classic Atari games I grew up playing.
Splatter Shot is a 2 player game where you have to dodge your opponents bullets while you shoot at them. The first one to destroy the other opponent wins. You have three different types of ships that shot different types of bullets. Splatter Shot is a real easy game to pick up and play. No hard setups, or difficult instructions. It’s pretty simple pick a ship and go. This is a real fun game to play with a friend, and best of all its free to download.

I’m not so sure how long this has been on sale for, but given that it is one of the most popular themes purchased in our application store, I figured it would be good for you all to know when the price has come down for it. It’s 75% off, so you’ll grab it for only $1.49, rather than $5.99. iBerry claims itself to be one of the most accurate iPhone style themes available on the market, and after seeing the screenshots, it’s hard to deny.

Stock Manager for the BlackBerry PlayBook just got approved earlier this morning in BlackBerry App World. It’s a pretty straight forward application that allows you to manage and update stocks you’d like to keep a close eye on. I’m not so crazy about the user interface, but the application does exactly what it says, so we can’t really complain there. It’s $1.99 to purchase at App World for those interested.

I’ll admit I’m a bit disappointed that there are no official IM clients for the BlackBerry PlayBook yet. I would of loved to see the standard ones we see in BlackBerry smartphones today such as AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, and Google Talk. There doesn’t seem to be any third party apps for these either and we’re hoping they will roll out soon in App World.
For the time being, how do you get around instant messaging on your PlayBook if any? Are you logging into Gmail on your browser for Gchat? There’s web instant messengers you can use as well, but apps sometimes feel better.

We’ve heard about Baltimore Police Department officers getting in on BlackBerry smartphones, but we never saw any real testimonials or how they used it exactly. RIM put up a video on their YouTube Channel showing how the PD up in Baltimore use BlackBerry smartphones.

Well it doesn’t seem so far fetched. BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to support Android applications, as RIM officially announced. Pretty soon we’ll see people hacking the PlayBook and hooking it up with Android OS in my opinion. But this advertisement goes too far showing off the BlackBerry PlayBook in an advertisement but has Android OS, Honeycomb specifically running. We’ve seen this before with the BlackBerry Curve 8300, showing Windows Mobile running on it. Some of these graphic designers are just way too funny.
Thanks ecivon for the tip!

I think it’s very important to point out what works well on the BlackBerry PlayBook, without the need for an application for it. With that said, I’m a huge Amazon fan, and when I found out that they opened up their own cloud services I was excited. 5GB of storage for FREE and if you purchase an album you get upgraded to 20GB for a year. So I started uploading music right away. Unfortunately, I couldn’t access my cloud from my BlackBerry only from a computer or from my Android device.

I’ve had the BlackBerry PlayBook since launch and i’ve been testing everything it can do as well as can’t do. Two things that I know I use a lot (and probably quite a bit of BlackBerry Nation uses as well) that isn’t available is Last.Fm and YouTube upload.
The BlackBerry PlayBook rocks an amazing 5MP camera, and records in high definition. One thing I would love to see on the PlayBook is the ability to upload the videos I record to YouTube. The YouTube app the PlayBook comes with is just for watching, and going through the YouTube website isn’t a help either. It just sits there. It would be really nice to be able to upload my videos so I can share them with friends, family, facebook, or the rest of the world.

Last night RIM put up a new video on their YouTube channel, a PlayBook commercial that is. After the BlackBerry PlayBook being launched a week ago, we finally see a commercial that would have done some justice in the past, had we seen it before the tablet actually made its way to store shelves. The main punch line in the commercial is that the PlayBook is “small enough to take anywhere, powerful enough to take you everywhere.”

That’s what the latest rumor says. We know RIM made mention of the BlackBerry Touch Monza at a T-Mobile employee event a little while back, then kept things pretty much on the down low after that. The latest rumor from Tmonews talks about the Monza launching for T-Mobile on June 29th. Assuming this is true, we expect to see T-Mobile put out an announcement next week at BlackBerry World.
