RIM didn’t really push the BlackBerry Extended Protection Plan to customers, but it is available for those looking for extra coverage on their BlackBerry PlayBooks. Today RIM posted up on their Facebook fan page a link to get the extended warranty. The extended protection plan goes form $129.99 across the board no matter which model PlayBook you have. The coverage includes:
- Accidental Damage from Handling Protection such as Drops, Spills and Cracked Screens
- Extends the Standard Warranty from 1 Year to 2 Years
- No Deductible or Hidden Charges
So basically you get a full 2 year warranty which includes physical damage to the tablet. Not a bad deal at all!

GeeReader is a great free Google RSS feed reader for BlackBerry PlayBook. One thing that annoyed me was that I couldn’t click hyperlinks within different feeds I was reading. Just over the weekend GeeReader updated to version 1.0.7 making links clickable in feeds and included a bunch of bug fixes. I notice the application scrolls and performs smoother overall as well. If you’re looking for a free Google Reader solution without having to use the web browser, then check out GeeReader. It’s free!

Here we get a pretty up close look at the BlackBerry Touch 9860 bottom half. As you can seen, the buttons look different than what we had imagined for the device. In the past we saw the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 and 9520 get buttons all on the same surface with the touchscreen as SurePress, but it looks like that technology is long dead. Then there’s the BlackBerry Torch which gets buttons all on the same surface rather than individual buttons which worked out well. Now it looks like the Touch 9860 gets individual buttons for the call, menu, back, and end call buttons.

I think everyone has had a dream to be able to use BlackBerry Messenger on their computer as a client like any other instant messenger. That dream is pretty much here now. Fixmo is currently putting out a beta for Web Messenger which allows you to use BBM on your desktop computer. Keep in mind, this does not allow you to have BBM standalone on your desktop, as it will be more of an extension to your current BlackBerry smartphone. For example, we currently can BBM on our BlackBerry PlayBooks when we bridge our BlackBerry smartphones to it. Fixmo Web Messenger will work the same way Bridge does. Continue reading to get started with BBM on your computer!

Menux reminds me of QuickLaunch where you can have menus customized with what you want. Of course Menux is different because it allows you to customize your BlackBerry menu, and not a third party one. With Menux, you can add a call contact, SMS contact, or email contact in your menu screen so you’ll have easy access to it. If you have a few people you would like to email faster than ever, and home screen short cuts just don’t suffice then try Menux. There’s a bunch of other menu options you can add as well.
Menux is $1.99 to purchase from the PocketBerry Store. Click the link below to check out more screenshots and videos of the application.

Originally I played this game on my Apple iPad and was impressed to see it come to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Vacation Mogul is a real estate management game where you manage hotels resorts and points of interest right along the beach. The game gets really challenging as the levels’ missions get harder and harder. Overall it’s a really fun game to play, and it’s $3.99 to purchase from BlackBerry App World.
Downside? I’m not happy with the aspect ratio. The game should run full screen, meaning I should not see the black bars on the sides as seen in the image above. That doesn’t change the game play though, and I am just being a big baby about that quite a bit.
