 The BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 was officially announced at BlackBerry World 2011.  As you know it’s the first device to run BlackBerry 7 OS.  With that said, apps need to be developed for it too.  RIM officially announced BlackBerry Java SDK v7.0, so you can start building apps as soon as May until launch.  Hit the jump for official notes and features od the new 7.0 SDK.

Here’s a quick demo of Quake III on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  It hasn’t made its way to the PlayBook officially just yet but some of the folks at BlackBerry World 2011 had it on theirs.  Luis from BerryReview got a chance to demo the game out and it seems to be really responsive given that it’s all touchscreen.  The game allows you to play against other players online who also have a BlackBerry PlayBook.  There seems to be no bugs with the game now, but we still have no official launch date for it.

Wakai in Japanese means forever young or eternally youthful (in Flemish it means øderanged stewardess with a nail-gun). Peaceful and simple on the surface, this theme breathes complexities and depth far beyond the outward appearance. Most themes make you wade through endless options, menus, buttons and lawn-mower displays (best not to ask). Not this one. This one makes you feel Heiwana (peaceful), skipping through your day stopping only long enough to paint rainbows and hug bunnies (not really, but it certainly sounds entertaining, doesn’t it?). It will love you as much as you love it.

It was really nice to see T-Mobile announce the BlackBerry Bold 9900 coming soon but we really wanted to see it expanded to other carriers as well.  We just got the word that Vodafone UK is picking up the Bold 9900 with a “coming soon” launch date.

We already showed you a video from the BlackBerry World 2011 keynote showing off the Android Player for BlackBerry PlayBook.  This video gives you a more in depth look on the PlayBook and how it works just as any application would.  What people have been wondering is how they would get around the apps since Android gets buttons on the their devices, and the PlayBook does not as it is mainly based on gestures.  Here you’ll see how it’s all done!

POYNT INTRODUCES PAIRING FOR BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK

Poynt allows users to pair their BlackBerry smartphone to their BlackBerry Playbook Tablet to initiate calls to businesses, add contacts to the address book and more

Calgary, Canada —May 04, 2011—Poynt Corporation (“Poynt Corp.” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: PYN), a leading provider of mobile local search services, today announced they have released an update to their mobile application Poynt (or the “App”) for BlackBerry® Smartphones™.

The new version of Poynt for BlackBerry smartphones allows users to pair their BlackBerry smartphone with their BlackBerry® PlayBook™ to combine the convenience of viewing listings on the PlayBook tablet’s larger display while using the BlackBerry® smartphone to interact with the search results. Users can call businesses, add addresses to the address book or add events to the calendar on their smartphone. Mapping and directions can also be pushed to the smartphone.

Some leaked details on BlackBerry App World 3.0 have started to surface.  As you know by now, RIM showed off some BBM Social Platform capability this week at BlackBerry World, and that same feature seems to be included in this new App World we’re hearing rumors about.

  • New UI (categories OS6s-style with carousel)
  • Social Sharing of Apps (via BBM )
  • Subscription for content per7/30 days Trials
  • Normalize prices between currencies
  • Search bar (like universal search in home screen)
  • Carrier Billing for major carriers

Enterprise AppWorld

  • Enterprise channel inside AppWorld
  • Blackberry OS first, PlayBook later
  • Visibility and permissions managed by BES admin

So that’s what’s out there now as far as leaked details go.  Things could change of course, but things are looking pretty good for App World according to these details.

Today at BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando Florida, keynote speaker Jeff McDowell announced that registration is now open for DevCon. The event will be from October 18-20 in San Francisco. You can register now at an early bird price of 699$ USD and take advantage of the Hotel Special where you get 4 nights for the price of three

On a side note, RIM will also hold DevCon Europe.  We already saw them do it and Asia and it was a success so bringing it to Europe seems right on track.

It’s been a while since we heard anything about WordPress for BlackBerry.  At one point a lot of updates were rolling out both official and beta, and now after a few quiet months, version 1.5 launches.  Here’s the full change log:

  • Added support forBlavatars (“Blog Avatars”).
  • Added preview for drafts, scheduled and private posts.
  • Introduced the home screen icon for comment notifications.
  • Added a visual indicator that shows the post status in the post list screen.
  • Added support for Discussion settings (enable/disable comments, pingbacks and Trackbacks).
  • Categories are now alphabetically sorted.
  • Added the possibility to specify a resize dimension on each image.
  • Changed the image resize feature, by adding predefined dimensions loaded from the Blog Media Settings.
  • Fixed issues on the Permissions settings screen, it now appears once at first startup.
  • Small UI redesign.
