We just had Foursquare for BlackBerry Alpha v1.9.89 release, and now a new alpha has launched quietly.  This one’s a small jump to v1.9.90, which hopefully and most likely addresses some bugs from the .89 build.  Keep in mind this version is still in alpha and is not available.  You can grab it by clicking the link below.

AIR Browser is a simple and free file manager application for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  There’s a few file managers I spotted which are premium apps up for sale, so seeing a free one pop up is always nice.  AIR Browser is pretty plain and straight to the point as far as functionality goes.  The options for files are as seen above.  You can copy, paste, cut, rename, delete, or unselect a file.

Need to jot some things down free hand on your PlayBook? Maybe you just want to mess around and have some art fun.  Scroodle gives you three different boards to write on: blackboard, greenboard, and whiteboard.  Scroodle is really easy to use.  You have different colors to choose from including red, green, white , pink, blue, black, and even rainbow.  There’s an eraser tool to easily wipe your whole doodling or certain spots you’d like to change.  Once your masterpiece is done, you can save it to access later.  It’s free to download from BlackBerry App World.

Last time around Mr. Number for BlackBerry added text message blocks, and now it’s back again for another update.  In version 1.41, you’ll get to put up a status for calls and texts.  Your friend can be informed when you are free for a call, or prefer a text when busy.  Look at it as turning off both calls and texts when you’re busy, but allowing folks trying to get in touch with you aware that you aren’t able to talk at the moment.  Features include:

It’s not a huge tip, but it is certainly useful for those who haven’t discovered the feature on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  When opening your web browser, there’s two star buttons to the right of the address bar and history icon.  The first is yellow, which brings up your bookmarks screen.  The second is a white star with a plus sign on it which allows you to add the current page you’re visiting as a bookmark.  When pressing it, you’ll see two options.  First is “Add to Bookmarks” and second is “Add to Home Screen.”  Obviously if we want to add a bookmark as an icon on the home screen we want to select the “Add to Home Screen” icon.  And there you have it.  All your favorite sites easily accessible right on your PlayBook home screen.

Color Invasion Tetris isn’t your average Tetris game where it’s cloned like the original.  The difference here is that blocks fall down with different colors and it’s up to you to align the colors into specific Tetris pieces to eliminate them.  Features include:

  • even the most complex forms are recognized
  • the pieces split in two when they hit edges
  • BOMBS appear on the board to help you clear part of the board
  • the pieces are made of differently colored squares, the whole board is like a colorful mosaic

  • Addition of specials 2.0.
  • Automated checking of app permissions.
  • And LOTS of small tweaks

This version isn’t official, and is in alpha but you can go ahead and try it out.

Having issues with the last App World update?  It looks like some people had an issue where the icon on the homescreen appears missing,  I haven’t experienced this issue myself, but RIM has an update out for it.
