We’ve seen how BlackBerry is used for law enforcement in the past, and RIM has put together several videos exemplifying how they use it.  In this video we see Waterloo Police in Canada using the BlackBerry and showing how they use it in their line of work.  The video gets funny with the police force guys smiling up at the camera making it a little on the fake acting side, but it’s still cool!

By no strings attached, we mean that BlackBerry Bridge is not required for it to work.  As you know, calendar support on the BlackBerry PlayBook requires Bridge, which may not always be desirable to connect everytime you use your tablet.  Tungle.me has introduced their free BlackBerry PlayBook application bringing their calendar services.  Tungle.me allows you to share calendars with others and syncs with BlackBerry, Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple iCal, Microsoft Entourage (for Mac OS), Lotus Notes, Yahoo! and Windows Live.  It’s free to grab at App World for both BlackBerry smartphones and the PlayBook.

Some of you may have figured it out on your own, or saw us drop it on Twitter first.  Not a huge deal or anything, but I did remember from back in the day that DOOM had many fun cheats to play around with.  Over the weekend, DOOM launched free in BlackBerry App World for PlayBook and so I thought how I could use some of these cheats.  So the PlayBook has a keyboard you can pop up at anytime by swiping up from the bottom left corner.  Cheats in DOOM require you to input sequence letters to enable cheats.  I put two and two together and realized that cheats do work in the game!  So here’s a few you guys can try.

  • IDDQD — Invulnerability
  • IDBEHOLDI — Temporary invisibility
  • IDKFA — Full health, ammo, weapons, armor and keys

There are certainly many more out there, so feel free to drop us a line with codes you still remember from DOOM!

Just spotted that DOOM is available in BlackBerry App World, for free.  I’m hoping this stays there, but just in case it doesn’t head over and download your copy free before RIM pulls it out (if that’s the case).  For those unaware, DOOM is a classic walkaround shooting game, very popular on older PCs throu MS-DOS even.  Memories.  The developer does list some known problems with it:

  • Multitouch implementation is far from perfect, freelook and movement/action buttons must be touched in a certain order to work together.
  • The buttons could stuck in certain situations.
  • Only the shareware episode is playable.
  • Very minor sound stuttering.
