Bridged is a BlackBerry smartphone theme made to look a bit like the PlayBook tablet itself. As you can see the wallpapers are identical to the stock out of the box, and we see windows open just like open applications and tasks. Those are five PlayBook styled windows which are user defined and not fixed. Then you have the picture in each window which is also user defined and grabs it from your SD card. You can hide all home screen icons at anytime, so feel free to enjoy the wallpapers you love. The developer promises it’s lag free as it’s a hand coded SVG. And now for the cool stuff. Bridged comes equipped with hot keys which open up different applications.

The most anticipated BlackBerry at the moment seems to be the BlackBerry Bold 9900 series. The device comes in both a GSM and CDMA version, 9900 for GSM, and 9930 for CDMA. We had the opportunity to check it out hands on at BlackBerry World this year, and even got word that T-Mobile is ready to launch it up in August. Now Vodafone has put out a sneakpeak of the device, teasing us with the device and showing some of its attributes.

That pretty much sums it all up. Previous in BlackBerry App World for PlayBook, you would download an application, then when you want to go back to your previous search results you could only go back to the main home screen of App World. Now let’s say you search “weather.” You find the weather app desired in the search results, proceed forward to download it, and then you can click back and it will take you to the search results once again. This was definitely a missing link before, and we’re happy RIM included it in this update at last. Also, anyone notice the small BlackBerry icon in the upper left corner now?

Not sure if these came back in the last OS update to version 1.0.3 in the BlackBerry PlayBook, but I certainly noticed them now brought back all the way on the bottom under my applications. It takes two seconds to delete of course but it does cause a bit of annoyance knowing that they were reinstalled with the OS update.

This was originally just for BlackBerry smartphones, then I noticed when accessing “My World” in App World for BlackBerry PlayBook, it showed I could download it. So I went ahead to and it worked full screen, formatted well for the PlayBook. It’s nice to see applications come to both BlackBerry smartphones and PlayBook. As of now it’s a rare occasion but you can’t be mad at it since there really is more you can do with the PlayBook, while the BlackBerry smartphone may not be able to handle same graphics and attributes.
Any way, you can grab The River Test free at BlackBerry App World.

OS Updates »

It’s definitely convenient to be able to put the BlackBerry PlayBook to sleep now with the touch of an on-screen button. In the latest BlackBerry PlayBook OS update, we saw this come to life along with a Power Off, Restart, and Brightness adjuster all when clicking the battery on the home screen as seen above. It was always convenient to swipe up to turn on your PlayBook, but with all the power button complaints, it’s easier to have the standby command on screen making it just as easy.

Something we didn’t have before was notifier icons on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Traditionally we would get notifications in the upper left hand corner, but now after the latest OS update we see the red star notifier come up on the actual icons themselves. I’ve tried this out on both BBM and Messages and it works live just as you get a message. Have you spotted anything else in the latest PlayBook OS update? Let us know!

Along with the OS update to version 1.0.5.2304 for the BlackBerry PlayBook came a Facebook application update as well to version 1.0.40. A lot of cool features have been added including video uploading where you can upload any video on your PlayBook to Facebook to share with your friends and family. The video can be already on your PlayBook or you can record your own to upload. Here’s the full change log:
