There’s quite a few BrickBreaker style games for the BlackBerry PlayBook since one doesn’t come natively out of the box.  Crayon Arkanoid is just like BrickBreaker in its game style, but everything is styled in crayon as you  can see in the screenshot.  It’s free to download and definitely time consuming with the high quantity of bricks you have to break!

When you see that an application gets no updated for years, you tend to assume there’s no more support for it.  The folks over at BerryReview got tipped about a update for the Bank of America application for BlackBerry, which has been out of the loop for a couple of years now stuck in version 1.  Now we see it up to version 3.0.26, and has a bit of a revamp now, and does indeed work a lot faster and smoother.  After all, it doesn’t seem typical of Bank of America to fall out of the loop with BlackBerry since they’ve been conducting NFC testing with BlackBerry smartphones behind the scenes.  You can grab the update at BlackBerry App World.

You would think we’d have native Auto Correct on the BlackBerry PlayBook by now with all these OS updates but it’s still not there.  Surely you can type in Word To Go, and it will tell you when you misspell a word.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing it in a future update and it will just be so sad seeing a function that should be there from version 1 show up later after months (or even years).  How’s your typing skills on the PlayBook? Even if your nasty and fast with your thumbs, there’s always room for mistakes when it comes to touchscreen devices.  Does Auto Correct matter to you?

It seems like an obvious operation you can do, but not many really thought about it.  How’s it come handy? Well that’s easy.  Let’s say you snap a photo with your BlackBerry PlayBook or have a photo saved on it locally and you’d like to set it as your BBM default.  Instead of sending it over to your BlackBerry smartphone via email or other methods you have, simply set it directly when connected via BlackBerry Bridge.  Here’s the steps:

  • Open up BBM on your BlackBerry PlayBook
  • Click your name and avatar block up top on your BBM list.  You’ll see “My Profile” come up.
  • Click your avatar, and then your local image library will appear.
  • Select the image you want and you’re done!

We’ve seen free speedometer applications for BlackBerry, but here’s a fresh one that just launched in our app store.  GPSpeedOMeter gives you a speedometer right on your BlackBerry screen, where you can get creative when to use it.  I don’t see the purpose of it in a car, but if your speedometers busted, it could suffice (very ghetto but works).  Features include:

  • Speed
  • Average Speed
  • Max Speed
  • Distance
  • Time
  • Elevation
  • Max Elevation

There’s nothing ground breaking about this application update, but I do notice that the app has become a lot more stable with the updates lately so we figured to let you know.  Air Browser is a free file browser for BlackBerry PlayBook allowing you to manage all your files and move them around if needed.  Over the weekend it got a small update from v1.7 to 1.8, then to 1.9 the next day.  You can pick up the update in My World on your PlayBook or download it free at App World.

Who remembers Tweetcaster? Last we heard from them was back in 2009 when they released a beta of their app, which cost you a tweet to download.  Now two years later they’re back again with a new beta for you to download at the price of a tweet once again.  Here are the features listed:

  • Multiple Twitter account support
  • Simultaneous posting to Twitter and Facebook
  • Retweet with or without comment
  • Manage Twitter lists
  • Advanced profile editing
  • Nearby/Geolocation functionality
  • Save and manage drafts
  • Advanced search
  • Full trending topics
  • Share tweets to email, SMS or Facebook
  • All standard Twitter functions—reading timeline, viewing profiles, sending tweets, clicking links

Just a fair warning, this app does not run that smooth.  You have to respect that when it’s in a beta, although I did expect more after two years.  Any way use the link below to download.

We’ve seen The Joy of Tech put out comics in the past poking at BlackBerry, and now another one has surfaced.  If you haven’t heard by now, the world is making a huge deal about RIM’s co-CEOs and even one of their big stock holders has demanded they play different roles in the company rather than the same.  So here’s a comic poking at the idea a bit.
