RIM held their Annual Meeting in Waterloo bringing up some interesting info for the future of BlackBerry.  This year’s event is getting a bit more exposure than usual, as investors and people all over the world are curious to see what RIM has planned for its future.  CrackBerry attended the event and did some live blogging, pointing out some nice future plans RIM has.

Firstly, the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is set to launch officially this fall.  That’s narrows it down to the few months in fall, but at least we know it is coming soon.  The 4G PlayBook was originally set to officially release in June, but there were all sorts of delay and Sprint ended up just getting the WiFi model which doesn’t really suffice for those who were waiting since April.

BlackBerry 7 is the new OS coming up on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and further on.  There are seven devices in total coming this year with BlackBerry 7 OS on them.  So far the devices that are getting lots of hype include the Bold 9900/9930, Torch 9810, Torch 9860, and Curve 9360.  We’re excited to see what other devices RIM has in store, or perhaps we’ll just see different flavors of these four we already know of.

And now for the best news ever, QNX is coming to BlackBerry smartphones in early 2012.  We already have QNX on the BlackBerry PlayBook now, so we can only imagine how far they will take it by then on smartphones.  That makes OS 7 a pretty short lived OS if you think about it.  Maybe it’ll be looked back at like OS 4.6/4.7.  Either way it’s great news that a QNX BlackBerry is set to come sooner than we thought.

Let’s hope we don’t see anymore delays for any of these devices.  RIM promised it to shareholders, so hopefully we’ll see it done right this time around.
