We’re still waiting for OS 1.0.7.2650 to reach out to our BlackBerry PlayBook tablets but it looks like we’ll be waiting a little while for this one with it rolling out super slow. Ronen from BerryReview posted up some changes spotted right off the bat including Airplane Mode and the Language option updated now where you can select the language (was there before) and now the country. Airplane Mode is a no brainer- turns off all radio connections.
In addition we see small update including Adobe AIR which went from 2.7.0.195 to 2.7.0.297 and Adobe Flash to 10.3.212.18 to 2.7.0.297. I’m hoping we see more roll out so hopefully once more get the update, more features shall be discovered, right?

Earlier tonight we saw BlackBerry Bridge get updated to version 1.0.4.9. Last time we saw Bridge update, an OS update for the BlackBerry PlayBook rolled out right after. That seems to be the same case here. Friday we were promised to see OS 1.0.7 launch for PlayBook, but it’s been delayed of course. BerryReview received word that some users are getting OS 1.0.7.2650 pushed out now, so it’ll be a matter of time until it gets to us all now. Keep checking your Software Updates for an update and let us know!

It looks like RIM stepped up really quick on this one, addressing the nation on Twitter that all rumors in regards to the discontinuing are false. So there you have it. BlackBerry PlayBook will still be circulating as they are launching in various countries worldwide as we speak.

It was expected that RIM would rush a response back to SHAPE Services in regards to their two month pending approval for IM+ for the BlackBerry PlayBook. A big app like IM+ going missing in action with approval process is hard to just ignore after all. Here’s what Maria Dyatlova of SHAPE tells us on Google+:
Our management just had a call with Tyler Lessard, VP, Global Alliances and Developer Relations. Tyler pointed that app doesn’t have a EULA; this of course should have been noticed and reported earlier by AppWorld’s review team. Anyway Tyler confirmed he will try to speed up the approval process when we submit an update. We will surely do this ASAP.
Even though SHAPE didn’t meet some requirements, someone from RIM should have contacted them about it rather than have it drag out publicly in this manner. Now that the ball is rolling, we should be seeing IM+ come to life soon!

If I’m not mistaken, the BlackBerry PlayBook was supposed to have more color flavors. Back at DevCon 2010, we saw it available in blue (and some other colors I believe) behind showcases. I guess we were so anxious for the tablet to launch and with all the delays encountered, we didn’t pay attention to the fact that black was only available. Perhaps the colors were just concept as it was still very far from being ready when RIM officially announced it back in September 2010.
BlackBerry smartphones have gotten a lot of love in white color, and it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea to bring the flavor to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Would you be interested in a different color BlackBerry PlayBook?

UPDATE: RIM calls rumors “pure fiction”
If the rumors are true, then that’s a pretty short lived tablet. A new rumor spotted by BGR has surfaced suggesting that the WiFi BlackBerry PlayBook model is expected to discontinue according to RBC Captial Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky. Here’s what he has to say about the matter:
In our view WiFi PlayBook build reductions may: 1) reflect a pullback in production following global channel fill to 16 countries; 2) align channel inventory with slower than expected forecast sell-through; 3) accommodate a shift in production to the 3G/4G PlayBook (launches expected in 2-3 months); and 4) reflect expectations that 3G/4G PlayBook may outsell/cannibalize WiFi-only models (considering carrier alignment and customer/enterprise feedback). RIM also appears to be re-prioritizing its R&D from PlayBook to its QNX-based ‘superphones’ expected early 2012, considering its importance to stemming US share losses.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has been making its way into different markets, making itself available around the world. Carriers have picked up the tablet to sell in stores as well since it goes well with BlackBerry smartphones as a great companion and an overall tablet. Now Virgin Mobile is expected to launch the PlayBook as seen in this leaked screenshot showing what’s coming up.
